Reclaimer: Chapter One, Part Nine – Advantages

↓ Transcript
Reclaimer: And you want me to hunt down Viper and do what? Destroy them? Why?

Ferial: They are dangerous, Reclaimer, dangerous to all known life.

They possess the ability to exterminate all life as we know it.

They must be stopped before that can happen.

Reclaimer: Why don't you do it?

You've already proven that you're more than a match for me. I never asked for this.

Ferial: Because, Reclaimer, you hold a special advantage I do not possess... the background and training of both Spartan and Reclaimer.

Ok mister, you got some ‘splainen to do. In definition, a “Reclaimer” in the halo fiction is some one of the human speicies, or forrunner decent. What does Mister squidface mean by ‘training as a spartain AND a Reclamer” how to you train to be human?

other than that, I have no issues. And I still love your work.

John Kenyon. » As you might recall, I mentioned recently that this storyline can be considered to take place in an alternate Haloverse. As such it will bear a resemblance to the Halo canon with which you are familiar but will, in no wise, be a perfect match. In this storyline, I’ve chosen to make the Reclaimer part of a special government program that bears the same name that was prematurely shut down due to a lack of control over the primary test subject, our hero. This does not, of course, necessarily go against the original Halo canon’s definition of ‘Reclaimer’; it is merely my re-imagining of aspects of the Haloverse to create what I hope will be a unique and interesting story. I hope that helps clarify my approach to this story and will also hopefully be something you can live with. :)

You know, there is a way to lower your weapon.
First, get both shoulder buttons. Then, click down the left anloge stick, pressing A as you do so. Finally, while holding down all of these buttons, hold Down on the d-pad for four seconds.
This only works offline though, and I assume you are on Live while doing this.

I’m just one Irishman offering help. Slan leat, agus gur raibh maith agat.

Railway Man » Hey, thanks for the tip. I’d tried doing that before, but didn’t realize you had to be offline for that to work. I’ll try that next time around and see if I can manage it. I don’t really mind the weapons in hand, but it would be convenient to be able to put them down, as well.

Ah.. Now I see. Thank you for clairifying, Could I ask another question? Please dont think Im critisizing, Im mearly trying to usderstand better, Why is the Elite allways holding human weapons? Is it for convinence on your part? Or is it tyed somehow into the story? It is my understanding that the Elites as a whole dipise the human weaponry as barbaric, useless. Now, I understand in the Halo 2 guidbooklet, it says from the covenet perspective that Elites should use what ever weapon at hand, even if it is human, but rarly will you see an Elite thankyou for switching their weapons with a human weapon in the game. Though they do seem to like the rocket launcher….

John Kenyon. » No, no – questions are fine. Heck, even criticisms are fine. All feedback and interaction can only serve to make things better. :)

To answer your question, the weapon set is based primarily on convenience. Maybe I shouldn’t admit this, but up until Railway Man’s comment, I couldn’t figure out how to get my characters to holster their weapons. So I just stuck a convenient weapon set in their hands and went with it.

Now, you will find that Ferial is not your typical Elite soldier. His is a bit of a tangled background, much more so than the rest of his brethren. Up ‘til now we’ve been introduced only to the Reclaimer’s background. I’ve only hinted at Ferial’s and his relationship to the Reclaimer. More of those secrets will be revealed as we go, and you may find out why Ferial isn’t uncomfortable using human weapons and, in fact, almost prefers them. He’s an interesting character. :)

And see here an example of an environmental constraint dictating part of the story. :)
