lilskii left a comment on yesterday’s comic that I was going to respond to in the course of the discussion thread, but my response ended up being kind of long, so I decided to go ahead and make it into its own entry, which you can find below:
I honestly don’t know how long this Reclaimer story arc will take to tell. I know exactly where I’m headed, where it’s going to end up, and most of the things that have to take place in order for us to get there, but I don’t know how long it will take to tell all that. I’m really not in any huge hurry, and I’d rather tell a quality story than a rushed one.
Over the course of all this, we’ll touch base with Ferial, Viper, and other characters along the way – kind of checking in to see what’s happening in other places.
Now, I deliberately don’t comment much on other people’s theories. I enjoy watching you all postulate on events, and I don’t really want to influence that much (or risk giving anything away before I’m ready to reveal it in the due course of the story). I will say that I have never altered any aspect of the story in response to a reader comment, whether it be to align with a particular theory or veer away from another. As I said above, I know where the story is going, so I don’t find myself wavering in the direction it goes.
I have made the occasional change or adjustment to ramp up the quality of my storytelling based on reader feedback, however, and for that I’m grateful to all of you for nitpicking every little thing. I believe it’s made me a better writer and storyteller.
You’ll notice that there’s no new comic today. The reason for this is threefold:
1) I opted to hold off on a comic in anticipation of the expected announcement from Bungie related to their new project. Needless to say, I’m disappointed that the announcement has been postponed indefinitely. Looks like we’re all just going to have to wait a little longer. 360sync reports that Microsoft has confirmed that Bungie is, indeed, working on a new Halo title that is unrelated to Halo Wars, but I hope you’ll pardon me if I take that news with a grain of salt until official word is actually passed down from the Bungie guys. It will be thrilling news if it is a new Halo title, but I don’t believe in counting my chickens before they’re hatched.
2) I wasn’t feeling particularly well yesterday, and so spent most of my day just resting. I had neither the energy nor the motivation to work on Reclaimer. I’m doing much better today, though, so expect updates to resume on Friday.
3) Related to 2) and to the Microsoft E3 announcement on Monday that NBC has been added as a media provider for the Xbox 360, I “discovered” the re-imagined Battlestar Galactica yesterday and spend most of the watching through the first season fof the show. I was pleased to find that the hype I’ve been hearing about the show is well-deserved. BSG has some of the best writing – Joss Whedon aside – I’ve seen in a show in recent years. I’m looking forward to working my way through the mini-series, the next three seasons, and the movie. Definitely good stuff.
I was all excited to see this thread over at the HBO forums this morning, only to be disappointed immediately when I discovered it was a fake. (Thanks to Wu for keeping tabs on these things for us.) I’ve been getting all geared up and excited to find out what Bungie’s been working on lately. They’ve been dropping hints for awhile now about a new project, and with E3 starting this next week, there’s anticipation about an impending announcement from Bungie. Personally, I hope it’s some sort of news on a Halo 4 title, with the Chief and Cortana possibly finding out about the mysterious planet at the end of Halo 3 – but I expect it’ll probably be something else entirely, a new title completely unrelated to the Halo franchise. I have never spent much time trying to figure these kinds of things out, since I know they will be revealed in due time, but one cannot help but to get a little bit excited about new things coming from Bungie.
