I loved the first 3 panels! Also…this outpost has capabilities eh? AND it has a Monitor…oh this should be good!
July 9th, 2008 at 9:20 am
re: zazmoro – Thanks! :)
re: mendicantbias00 – Well, more like this outpost HAD a Monitor. Doesn’t mean, though, that there aren’t still some defensive systems that are operational.
July 9th, 2008 at 9:25 am
Got to agree with bias00 love the flying mongoose!
July 9th, 2008 at 10:48 am
Had a monitor? =(
July 9th, 2008 at 10:56 am
re: Bearded Phantom – :D I actually had to play with that a bit to get the effect just right and flipped all my screenshots for this page to make it work properly.
re: mendicantbias00 – Yeah. You may want to re-read the comic and take note specifically of what Legacy has to say about the Monitor for the outpost. Edit: I should maybe also add that there’s never a Huragok around when you need one. :)

Heh. Funny stuff, Jim. :D
July 9th, 2008 at 12:04 pm
Excellent strip. I can’t wait to see what these capabilities are =D.
Is it just me, or did you flip the last panel round? Because it doesn’t look much like the view you’d normally see on High Ground.
July 9th, 2008 at 12:31 pm
You rule. In case you wanted to know.
Also, “requre” a Reclaimer?
July 9th, 2008 at 1:19 pm
The Todash Protocol now reminds me of the “Code Belladonna” from Alastair Reynold’s “House of Suns”.
Code Belladonna was a way of calculating fallback point for rendezvous without having to transmit the coordinates, using a complex calculation taking into account relative planetary positions.

re: Matoro3311 – Hehe, the dialogue between the Reclaimer and Legacy has been kind of cracking me up as I write it. It’s clear that Legacy is, for the most part, trying to do what he can to help the Reclaimer’s job be easier, and it’s just as clear that the Reclaimer is Legacy’s reluctant tool. It’s kind of fun. :)
re: XxxxJammyxxxX – It’s not just you – and it’s not just the last panel. They’ve all been flipped (except for the bird’s-eye view). I really needed to have the Mongoose flying through the air from left to right, but I could only screenshot it going from right to left (due to the invisible wall on the beach), so I just flipped everything to make it work. I actually really the effect because it makes High Ground look different than what people are used to seeing.
re: Yamir – Yeesh. I was fighting with my computer all through making this page, so by the time I got to that point I wasn’t proof-checking quite as closely. I’ll fix it this evening when I get home. :)

Ooh. This is starting to remind me of Elizabethan-era writing, especially the “Pray tell” part. Maybe Shakespeare has something to do with this comic; noting the multiple references (i.e. Ferial a while back). I’m gonna love this!
July 9th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Reclaimer seems ticked off at Legacy. This is going to be a bumpy relationship.:)
Oh,darn!Only 2 days off from the 77 reference!;)
July 9th, 2008 at 2:17 pm
I was really hoping for a rampant Monitor, but I took “out of service” to mean broken or destroyed…but maybe Legacy only “thinks” that the monitor is out of service….
July 9th, 2008 at 2:43 pm
It’s a trap!!!!
In other news, I agree with other people, flying mongoose rocks ass
Also I love the banter between legacy and reclaimer, and the way that Reclaimer is just something to be used by Legacy, also I think you’ve captured the way monitor Spartan relationship really well, thinking about Halo CE and the later levels, with Chief’s frustration and Spark making it sound oh so simple
Great work!! Keep it up (I know you will but just thought I’d say it)
July 9th, 2008 at 2:46 pm
“Were it so easy”, great use of copyright infringement, haha
July 9th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
oh and another thing, I may sound really stupid asking this, but you know the first episodes with reclaimer and ferial? Are the set after these episodes (with reclaimer and legacy) or before it?Because each one takes me down a completely different line of theories.
July 9th, 2008 at 2:55 pm
re: lilskii – Less trap and more just plain dangerous. :)
re: ReverendTiki – Um, not really. It’s simply a legitimate grammatical structure. You may want to freshen up on your knowledge of copyright laws and what is infringement and what is not. :)
re: lilskii – Those first pages take place first. That was the point that Ferial set the Reclaimer on his course. The only scenes that take place before the main storyline are those in the Reclaimer’s flashback, when he recalls his training days (before the Reclaimer program was scrubbed). Everything else so far has taken place in chronological order. Good question, though! :)
July 9th, 2008 at 2:58 pm
it was just that he fell off blackout when he got attacked, todash protocol leading to Legacy, which confused me abit, it’s probably a tribute to your writing that i’m getting this confused about it all
cheers
July 9th, 2008 at 3:03 pm
yet more stuff, i think reverendtiki means the first cutscene in halo 3 where arbiter says “Were it so easy” when chief is about to shoot him
July 9th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
re: lilskii – Or possibly a bit damning of my writing. I haven’t actually explained what happened to the Reclaimer when he jumped from that platform. It was actually the jump from the ledge into the waterfall that sent the Reclaimer to Legacy, but I definitely can see how you would have been confused by the sequence there. That was my bad. :)
re: lilskii – Yeah, he said it at both ends of the game, making everything come back full circle. Still, though, not copyright infringement. :)
July 9th, 2008 at 3:08 pm
no worries, i just read through them and i realised all that, i was just about to say that but you beat me to it, I’m all back on track now
(Don’t doubt the comic, it’s amazing, and I’m just abit stupid sometimes, it’s not the writing)
July 9th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
‘Were it so easy’???? come on, whats next ‘Finish the Fight’? but it fits and its a great comic and the first one in a while where we get to see the reclaimer(he’s teh best) o and love the flipped-ness, i wish bungie would do that!!! let us flip the levels and play em like that!! i cant wait to see what he runs into here though
July 9th, 2008 at 4:47 pm
re: lilskii – Heh, glad you’re all up to speed and un-confused. :)
re: PikminGod – No really, it’s not borrowing from Halo (I actually talk like that in everyday life, for instance; just ask my wife!), and even if it was, it’s still covered under Microsoft’s Game Content Usage Rules. I’m actually kind of amused that you two fellas are taking such umbrage with my use of this phrase. :)
Yeah, I felt like it was time to get back to the Reclaimer, since we left him flying off a cliff. We’ll spend some time with him again before we flip over to someone else.
July 9th, 2008 at 6:03 pm
i wasn’t saying it was copyright material…i was just saying it was funny to see…like i said, it fits in, and because of it i’m starting the campaign again!!
July 9th, 2008 at 6:37 pm
re: PikminGod – Ah, well, it’s so difficult to determine intent with text communication sometimes, and after Mr. Tiki stopped by, I was feeling a smidge touchy about it. No harm done. :)
July 9th, 2008 at 7:07 pm
Sorry if i confused you before, i only meant it in fun. I thought it was funny that you used it when arby loves to say it so much, and figured you just took it from the game (text communication is hard to tell the persons tone and i often forget that, and i am pretty sarcastic, so people always are hating on me). Great comic yet again!
July 9th, 2008 at 9:00 pm
re: ReverendTiki – It’s all good. As you said, text communication is difficult sometimes, and sarcasm doesn’t translate especially well (which is why I tend to use lots of smileys in my comments). :) I’ve actually been pleasantly surprised by the fact that I’ve not had one mean comment yet, but I keep half-expecting a troll to show up. I have some of the best readers! :)

Sweet, I got a Gravatar! Oh, and great job with the new comic.
Quick question. In the very first comic, there is a guy with CQB armor, and he seems to be the main character. Yet in all of the other comics, the protagonist sports Scout armor. What’s the reason for this?
July 9th, 2008 at 11:23 pm
This is a test for my Gravatar.
OK, this isn’t working. Help?
July 10th, 2008 at 5:25 am
My gravatar doesnt work either!!
does ferial know where all the cavalcade are? Does he know about the Reclaimer?
July 10th, 2008 at 5:58 am
re: JimboMonkey1234 – The very first comic was simply a proof-of-concept page. I just took a bunch of random screenshots and tossed them together to see what I could come up with. At that time, I hadn’t even quite figured out exactly what I was going to do with the story, let alone who my protag was going to be. That’s the reason for the disparity you see.
As to your Gravatar, it’s showing up just fine on my dashboard, just not on the main site. Go back to gravatar.com and make sure your gravatar is rated at ‘R’ or lower. I’m guessing you somehow have it rated ‘X’, hence the reason it’s not showing up.
re: PikminGod – Your gravatar is showing up just fine now. It usually takes a few minutes to propagate once you select it.
As to whether Ferial knows where all the Cavalcade are, well, you’ll just have to wait and find out. :) And to answer your second question, you might want to re-read the first pages of Reclaimer.
July 10th, 2008 at 12:58 pm
Building up a very solid fanbase now, Jim :D.
July 10th, 2008 at 1:36 pm
re-read…i’m dumb!!
July 10th, 2008 at 10:35 pm
re: Shu Sam Chen (HSAR) – Very likely.
July 10th, 2008 at 10:36 pm
re: Shu Sam Chen (HSAR) – I’m starting to notice that. :)
re: PikminGod – Naw. It’s just that a lot has happened since then. It’s easy to forget stuff. :)
re: Uzi_Master – Fixed it. Thanks for spotting that.
