I just want y’all to know that if the writing quality isn’t quite up to far on this one, it’s because I had to put it together through a fog of pain tonight. My back went out (again) earlier this evening, so I’m extremely uncomfortable right now. I hope you enjoy it anyway!
August 27th, 2008 at 1:40 am
Well, the comic definitely got the grumpiness through! :)
This is interesting. Once you tie in the three voices, the Reclaimer, Ferial, the Cavalcade, and Team Viper, you should create the Machinima for a huge battle. It would be much more epic on film.
In the words of the internet, I declare.
MOAR!
August 27th, 2008 at 2:29 am
Lights are out, but methinks someone is still home. Much to the dismay of Viper. Looks like Archimedes isn’t done with them yet.
I read the last panel and I can’t decide which theme song that runs through my head is the most appropriate. Jaws (impending doom) or Physco (run like hell). I’m leaning more towards Jaws since these soldiers won’t back down but thier time is rapidly running out.
Nice work Jim, keeps me wanting more.
August 27th, 2008 at 7:29 am
Something unknown noises in the dark, power goes out, darkness surrounds them, got to love the classic situation. I also love the fact that the big beam thing is still glowing, that adds a little more intrigue to things =D
August 27th, 2008 at 7:34 am
Is this a from a different perspective? i’m confused with the transition from the chief and the reclaimer to this new squad.
August 27th, 2008 at 7:40 am
Either there’s backup power or that is more than just a virus.
August 27th, 2008 at 7:42 am
Nice to be back with Viper for a change, and we have yet another Viper team. Are these guys engineer-specialists (seing as they’re running the power-station), or are Vipers all jack-of-all-trades?
Sorry to hear about your back, hope you get better soon.
August 27th, 2008 at 7:48 am
@ chanchu mohan: re read all of the comics.
Good comic though.
August 27th, 2008 at 8:01 am
Guy: “read all of the comics” re i’m assuming you dont know either.
August 27th, 2008 at 8:14 am
Distefant: I can also hear the theme song from Holloween, or Friday the thirteenth, “ch ch ch hahaha”.
Jim, you are a master of the cliff hanger, can’t wait to find out what happens next… Sorry to hear about your back, I hope you heal quickly.
August 27th, 2008 at 8:25 am
re: JimboMonkey1234 – Hehe, more is coming. :)
re: Distefant – Who says this is Archimedes? ;-)
re: Hazat36 – More importantly, note that the beam has changed colors.
re: Chanchu Mohan – Yup, we’re back to Viper, Squad Beta.
re: TrAvIs 6t6 – When has anything ever been at face value? ;-)
re: Rosco128 – Yeah, it’s been a while since we’ve visited with these guys. And to answer your question, all members of Viper are skilled in a variety of areas, but each squad is tasked with a particular focus for their plans with Archimedes.
re: spillits – I’m not familiar with either of those tunes; never really been a huge fan of gore flicks.
And thanks to all for the well wishes on my back. I do feel a little bit better after a night’s rest, but unfortunately my back problems are a chronic condition. I have my good days and bad. This just happens to be one of my bad days.
August 27th, 2008 at 10:44 am
My heart goes out to you and your back, Jim. And I must pull a Kenyon here… If Viper is supposed to be a spinoff of the Reclaimer program (which was a spinoff of the SPARTAN program) but designed to be more disciplined/obedient, then wouldn’t they be less… chatty?
Regardless, great comic, Jim!
August 27th, 2008 at 11:28 am
hmmm, yeah but didn’t Jim already say that they broke loose and couldn’t be controlled, so maybe not. I thought the beams colour change was simply due to the lack if lighting, but Jim’s comments suggest otherwise…. either way it still spells bad news for the vipers methinks!
August 27th, 2008 at 4:15 pm
this comic is great but there is so much suspense. need the next one!
August 27th, 2008 at 4:37 pm
@ Sangheilioz – Well, the warriors who make up Viper are still human. They will chat amongst themselves when the situation allows. And remember that Viper ultimately rebelled. They’re disciplined for the sake of the end goal but they see no real need to maintain a rigid military discipline.
@ Hazat36 – No, no. There’s a reason why the beam’s color changed. :)
@ Zach – Friday, my friend. Friday. :)
August 27th, 2008 at 5:13 pm
So maybe this is Ferial playing games with Viper again…...just a thought.
August 27th, 2008 at 7:05 pm
So, Jim, how did you like running all over the place and taking about three times as many screenshots as there are images in the comic? (checked your recent screenshots on Bungie; careful, those could let people get an early look at the comic)
August 27th, 2008 at 7:08 pm
@ the silver fox – Hehe, I was wondering how long it’d be before someone figured that out. :) Yeah, that’s the way I have to piece some of these shots together – multiple shots layered over one another, with visibility masks and painting the extra characters back into the scene. A little extra work, but actually quite easy once you get the hang of it. :)
August 27th, 2008 at 7:51 pm
Looks like while I was out at school, The Vipers had a wardrobe change, a virus was set out and a Comic genius’s back went out. All in a day’s work for the internetz.
August 27th, 2008 at 7:53 pm
Yeah, for a while I was wondering how you got two profiles with ODST helmets on the same XBOX so you could lower their weapons…then I looked at the recent screenshots. Which also explains why everyone has the same weapons.
Beware the Blue Beam of Death!
August 27th, 2008 at 11:53 pm
@ Uzi_Master – Not a change, just a different squad. There are seven squads, each with seven members, and each squad has its own color.
@ the silver fox – I work with what tools I have available. :)
August 28th, 2008 at 12:59 am
Hmmm…...........7 viper squads, 7 members per squad, 7 cavalcade members…......I think I see a pattern here.
Where else are you hiding sevens at Jim?
August 28th, 2008 at 3:05 am
I think the last frame was kind of reflecting your state… it wasn’t quite up to standard. But that is excusable, considering your pain-filled conciousness.
Possibly they’ve just killed the lights, and they’ve actually freed up more power to the energy beams?
August 28th, 2008 at 8:35 am
Well, the title of this comic IS Power Spike…
August 28th, 2008 at 10:38 am
@ Distefant – No, there’s no pattern. None whatsoever. [waves hands wildly] You see nothing, nothing. You’re getting very, very sleepy….
@ Shu Sam Chen (HSAR) – Yeah, I wasn’t real happy with that bit of scripting, but I was just trying to get the comic completed. And I did get the relevant bit of information out.
@ the silver fox – A mystery wrapped in an enigma. :)
August 28th, 2008 at 12:10 pm
stupid viper…if you want to turn off construct all you ahve to do is throw a lot of trip mines!!
man i’ve been at work since tuesday night at 1130 and didnt get off tilll this morning at 600…i’ve been wondering about the new comic the whole time…and it did not dissapoint..sorry bout your back though
August 28th, 2008 at 12:49 pm
Fan Fiction 08 is in the Forums!!! Fan Fiction FTW!!!!
Yeah, I hope you feel better soon.
On another note, Jim hasn’t used Cold Storage in the comics yet.
August 28th, 2008 at 1:14 pm
@Shu Sam Chen – I thought he did on Wed. of last week on #79 – Price of Purchase.
August 28th, 2008 at 2:50 pm
@Taterfic: Right you are. My bad.
August 28th, 2008 at 7:52 pm
Uh…...right, nothing to see here people, keep moving, nothing to see here.
August 28th, 2008 at 10:16 pm
Hey, Jim. Have you ever considered making an actual map of the training course called the Gauntlet that RC had to go through? I would make my own, but for three red lights…
August 29th, 2008 at 9:15 am
@Shu Sam Chen – Not a problem. The only reason I remembered was because I was thinking that the monolouge in that comic was a gravemind.
August 29th, 2008 at 4:12 pm
haY GOT IN my shirt!!!! I’m am an official fan now…NOW I’M COOL (unlike everyone else that doesn’t have a shirt… haha
August 30th, 2008 at 9:18 am

September 1st, 2008 at 5:55 am
Wow Just Read ThroughThe Whole Series And I Am Very Impressed With The Level Of Detail. The Plot Is Almost As Mysterious As The Whole Terminals Thing.
Keep Up The Good Work!
September 1st, 2008 at 6:01 pm
@ the silver fox – Y’know, that’s a good idea. I may have to try that at some point and see what I can come up with.
September 1st, 2008 at 6:05 pm
@ kr8tos187 – Sweet! I hope you like it! I wore my shirt to the ChicagoLANd 3.0 event this past weekend. :)
September 1st, 2008 at 6:06 pm
@ Shellshock – Thanks! I hope you stick around and continue to read!
September 1st, 2008 at 6:08 pm
@ the silver fox – Yeah, I’m going to see what I can do to get a new comic out for Wednesday. Hopefully everything will work out alright. My Xbox kept locking up over the weekend at the LAN but seems to be working just fine now that I’ve got it back home again. Might have just been temperamental about the hotel’s power supply.
September 1st, 2008 at 6:09 pm
@ bansheflier – There’s always something fishy here. ;-)
September 1st, 2008 at 6:09 pm
@ Giddings – I’m glad you like it. I love convoluted plots, as you can probably tell.
September 1st, 2008 at 7:51 pm
why u posting so funny?
September 2nd, 2008 at 12:25 am
So many posts…hey Jim, do you know how many people read this comic?
Oh, and did you go to PAX?
September 2nd, 2008 at 1:02 am
2…MILLION!! weren’t you at ReclaimerCon ‘08? Madison Square Gardens was packed
September 2nd, 2008 at 4:10 am
Yeah, I got my limited edition “The Reclaimer kicked my ass” shirt there!
Who the hell didn’t know about RCCon08?
September 2nd, 2008 at 4:14 am
that n00b jimbo…how can you be so out of the loop? i just don’t get it
September 2nd, 2008 at 8:02 pm
The next comic looks like it will be interesting, but will it require much photoshoping, or will the lights come back on? (aside from the painting in multiple characters part)
September 3rd, 2008 at 8:47 am
@ PikminGod – If you’re talking about the multiple comment replies in a row, it’s because there were a lot of comments to catch up on, and this was the easiest way to do it.
@ JimboMonkey1234 – I have a rough idea, based on numbers of page views and RSS/email subscribers – but no, I don’t have an exact count. And no, much as I’d love to go to PAX someday, I was actually at the annual ChicagoLANd event for the TTL Gunslingers, which is the Halo clan I’ve been a member of for a couple of years now.
@ Shu Sam Chen (HSAR) – Apparently, I didn’t. :)
@ the silver fox – It’s a ‘Meanwhile’ comic (which I suppose I should have noted in the comic itself, eh?). I think that ought to be somewhat self-evident.
