Its going to get crowded in RC’s head… Do you suppose that Legacy and the new guy are actual twins or was that verbal banter in looking forward to closer integration?
the shatterbox just sounds freakin awesome!!
and matchtwin? i’m pretty sure i haven’t heard that term before…does that add like a new layer to the cavalcade, like a each cavalcade member is paired with another member?
does the snake symbol on his shoulder mean anything or is it just there?
“Fine. I know enough to know that it…hurts.”
What?
when he was being shot at by the manifestation, which was made entirely of dark matter (including it’s bullets), it still drained his shields, so therefore, dark matter hurts things made of regular matter, and he understands that fact.
Ah, thank you m43, I thought it had to do with the Cavalcade hurting when they take those forms.
Or perhaps his “bonding with his matchtwin” means something along the lines of his physical projection melding with his actual self? You intrigue, Jim…
Shatterbox. Cool. Somewhat sinister if you think about a box shattering…
re: Bearded Phantom – Wouldn’t you like to know?
re: PikminGod – Thanks! I’ve wanted to use the term ‘shatterbox’ in a story for awhile now (sadly, it wasn’t the original word that I’d hoped it would be), and this seemed like a good opportunity to use it in reference to a Cavalcade central processing core.
And no, the symbol doesn’t really mean anything.
re: m43 – Bingo.
re: Sangheilioz – Technically they’re already ‘melded,’ in the sense that the ‘software’ version projects and controls the physical version.
re: Spartana – I just like the way the word itself sounds. It’s different and almost exotic.
re: Chanchu Mohan – That has not been revealed in full yet, just little pieces here and there, and even then not enough for anyone to puzzle it out. We’ll be getting back to Ferial and his nefarious deeds shortly.
Very nice. Man, I just wish these weren’t one page at a time. I understand and appreciate the hard work in creating these comics, it’s just hard to only have 1 page to read. Thanks Jim for writing a great comic around a game I enjoy greatly. Can’t wait to find out what happens next.
I love the title, very very nice. I cant wait to find out what the rest of the Cavalcade has in store for Reclaimer.
Hope RC’s mind doesn’t shatter with the additional voices bouncing around in there. On a technical note, since the cavalcade is so advanced I am assuming that they need a lot of “disk space and CPU” so I am curious how RC’s neural network lace is going to handle that load. Especially if he keeps collecting more of the cavalcade.
I know enough to know that big words…hurt. The other comments helped though. I just hope all these AIs dont take any furniture with them when they leave…RVB FTW!
That could be interesting if the AI’s take away from the host, and I’m also curious if he’s going to end up in a similar situation to the meta in RvB, in the fact that more AI’s take more power, and therefore weaken him in combat. And awesome comic by the way, cant wait for the next one.
“Shatterbox” reminds me of Alastair Reynold’s concept of “shatterlings” in his book The House of Suns, in which some rich people have divided themselves into thousands of unaging individuals who experience the universe, and meet together to combine their experiences.
Something of the same concept?
re: spillits – Yeah, that’s the downside to this format, is that the story and action are spread out more. Glad you’re enjoying the comic, though.
re: Distefant – Well, now, that’s just something you’re going to have to wait to see on.
re: Shu Sam Chen (HSAR) – Not even close, really. I actually just came up with some really cool plot points regarding the Shatterbox this evening while I was feeding our horses. I think you guys are going to really like them.
That’s an excellent point, though it was MC who said it was a projection, for all we know it could have been a self-replicating set of nanobots that held the Cavalcade member’s sentience for its purposes.
hey, i haven’t commented for a while, just a little thing, I’ve been imagining Legacy’s voice all along as being like the Monitors, is that how you see it or are they completely seperate to you? By the way I’m letting the plot unfold a little before my next mega comment/ new wave of theories
How many cavalcades are there? i lost track already
re: Sangheilioz – A fair point.
re: lilskii – That’s kind of the way I’ve been imagining their voices and speech patterns, as well, though maybe it’d be more accurate to think of them in terms of a Cortana-like set of speech patterns, since they ARE a more advanced set of AIs than Guilty Spark and Penitent Tangent were.
re: Chanchu Mohan – There are seven total. I believe we’ve been introduced to four so far.
7 total…sweet so that confirms that ferial is not a member of the cavalcade!!
re: PikminGod – How do you figure? (Just out of curiosity…)
It’s a two-for-one AI deal!
@Pikmin
There are 7 total, but we’ve only been introduced to 4… that means there are still 3 more Cavalcade members that we do not know, meaning that Ferial could very easily be one, or more, of them.
Remember Jim, Cortana isn’t very advanced. She is just humanoid. After all, she has a short seven year life-span. Guilty Spark is HIGHLY advanced, and is almost fully sentient.
Mendicant Bias is the most advanced, he’s got full sentience. Cortana has very little compared to him. So the voices have nothing to do with complexity.
re: JimboMonkey1234 – I dunno. I’ve always considered Cortana to be more advanced than Spark. After all, she originally locked him out of the Halo network so that he couldn’t activate the ring. And reading about her abilities in the Halo novels, I rather regarded her as being highly advanced, indeed, short lifespan or no. Also, from I’ve seen of her consciousness, it could be argued that she may be even more sentient even than humans.
All purely speculative, of course.
actaully spark could easily have disable cortana but chose not to because she had the key or something and if he disable her he would have broked halo, and therefore failed his job
and i just said that about ferial to see if i could get you to tip your hand either way about him..and you didnt
re: PikminGod – I’m gonna have to disagree with you on this one. I saw no indication in the storyline that Spark could have disabled Cortana, so I think you’re making a bit of a leap in your logic. Spark complained about a construct being in the network, describing it as ‘Unacceptable!,’ so I’m left with the conclusion that it was specifically forbidden to introduce an AI into the Halo network exactly because it was impossible – or at least extremely difficult – to root one out. Anyone else have any info to add to this debate to clear things up?
Hehe, you should know better than that by now. I don’t reveal anything before I’m ready.
