I’d say viper is in for some serious trouble.
Time to wait for lame “If he was a Mac, he wouldn’t have gotten the virus!” comment…
this doesnt look good for viper one bit
This page feels like it needed something more. Maybe some reactions from the Viper as his brain was purged :\
So do we have a bad AI here taking over a Viper, ca’t wait to find out…Good stuff Jim.
I love the Napoleonic (word?) title for this one…though I must confess when I was reading the 3rd panel…I thought “LOCAL” said “LOLCAT” and I was a bit confused.
@ TrAvIs 6t6 – Oh, no doubt.
@ Minocc – “Hi, I’m a Mac.” “And I’m a PC.”
@ bansheflier – Or at least not for this one unfortunate member.
@ Rosco128 – Well, I’ll tell ya’ – he would have responded had he had enough time. The whole process took less than a second.
@ spillits – Something like that.
@ mendicantbias00 – Yeah, I can see how LOLCAT would have made that confusing. Speaking of which…. LOLReclaimer, anyone?
i thought the lights went out in the last panel of the last comic?
i love that his speaking font matches his (insert word for non-speaking font) very nice…and i love the last line!!
I concur with PikminGod, why are the lights on again?
And I suppose that the pink gravity lift changing colour was to show an abscence of something… In this case, our mind purger.
@Minocc
If he was a mac, he would have just frozen and crashed on his own.
Great work, Jim. I’m looking forward to Wednesday!
@ PikminGod – Thanks! I debated over three or four lines for that panel before settling on that one.
@ BFish & Pikmin – Stay tuned…
@ Sangheilioz – Me, too!
It seems the virus is using the rerouted slipspace array to propagate itself. It seems that this former Viper soldier is going to give someone a very bad day.
Hmm… unexpected consequences.
Spooky. This definitely would be epic as a machinema or movie type dealio.
Reclaimer would make an epic feature-length machinima. Jim, get on that!
Interesting, it seems like the AI sees the intrusion not as human but as a computer attack. Aka virus. I wonder what the implications are for the slipspace array storage. It seems that the viper member is not bound by the storage. Is it possible that his new found power might be like that of Ferial???? Interesting…. interesting…...
dun nuh, du nuh dunuh dunuh! And Jaws(or the virus thing,in this case)jumps out of the water, and eats the guy!(or takes him over,in this case)
well,I think I have the whole week of comics in my head. The viper guy is used to try to kill reclaimer, but reclaimer cant, because then all vipes will be after him.But he has to anyway, then the viper try to kill him. Then, Ferial(who we havent seen in a long time) convienently unleashes his plan.Reclaimer tehn shoots anything that moves.
Cant wait to see how close I was!
I would say that the mere fact that the virus CAN take over something organic like a viper soldier suggests that it has an organic basis itself. Starting to seem like a lot more than just a computer virus…seems like an evolving virus, one that could soon get out of hand. (just like experiment Kraj…)
I concur with Phantom, the computer system, or AI, is not the virus, but rather the Viper soldier’s consciousness is being logged as one… So there’s a Viper consciousness in the slipspace array now… intriguing…
I actually doubt that, considering the virus is purging the soldier’s mind completely. I would have to say that this is could be something akin to a “DNA based” computer, except vastly more complicated. The cavalcade and other forerunner constructs would likely be based on such technology (or technology far more advanced), but this is clearly far beyond the fragmented Cavalcade’s ability to cope. Together, though, they might stand a chance.
Oh, and Reclaimer should probably watch out that he doesn’t get his mind wiped by this virus. No sense in going rampant (speaking of rampancy, did anyone see today’s “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles”? I think Cameron went rampant…if you can apply that to a terminator)
Why would the system make a copy of itself to put into the slipspace array when it already exists? The only way I can read this that it makes sense is that it reads the Viper’s consciousness as a virus, “purges” and copies it, placing the copy in a quarantined section of the slipspace array to be studied/returned to the body later.
That’s just how I see it.
Maybe, this: the AI itself uses the virus to gain control of the viper dude, then relegates the virus back to the slipspace array so it can use it to take over other systems remotely.
Makes me wonder exactly how Ferial and the voice that mentioned the flood fit into this…
@jim
how can it look good for an unfortunate member thats not making sence
The way I saw it was the virus put a copy of itself into the slipspace array in case it’s Viper puppet get’s killed.
I’m wondering what the virus will do now. will it pretend that nothing has happened and infiltrate the Viper team, infecting them one by one? or will it just wipe them out?
Or possibly, the virus will ignore the other members of Viper and simply go after other targets instead.
It is entirely possible that the virus cannot take over organic forms, but it is taking over the Viper’s suit. A much more simple explanation.
Possibly it’s going to use the Viper to access the computers?
I don’t really agree with the term ‘wetware network.’ i think that a foreign entity might use the term ‘organic network,’ or something like that in its place, as i have never heard ‘wetware’ used in a serious conversation.
I would suspect that the viper soldier, like most UNSC military personnel, would have a neural interface. That could possibly allow the virus to gain access to his mind through his suit. Besides, if the virus just took over the suit, the soldier would still be able to respond in some way.
A UNSC “smart” AI is patterned after human brain functions. An extremely advanced virus would probably view a brain as simply another computer.
Stupid laggy computer! Double posts are not cool.
@ Shu Sam Chen (HSAR) – Quite unexpected.
@ DeathGrunty – Oh, believe me, the idea is definitely moving up in priority. I just need to make time to sit down and figure how I want to approach a Reclaimer machinima and how I want to script it.
@ Minocc – Well, it’s certainly your prerogative to disagree with my choice of terms, but I’ll give you a hint – the virus uses the phrase ‘wetware network’ as a pejorative.
@ everyone else – I have REALLY enjoyed watching the back and forth discussion on this comic. I honestly never expected the virus’ actions to be so controversial! I love it!
What can I say? We love Rampant speculation (and yes, that is supposed to be capitalized). But I wonder what putting a copy of the virus back into the slipspace array will do…all I know is that cutting the power won’t kill it now.
Hah, funny. The URL says this is comment 2552.
i second that just dont stop like they did on AHCS and others
@ bansheflier – There are no plans to end Reclaimer prematurely, barring major health issues. I’ve still quite a bit of story to tell, and I plan to keep Reclaimer going – in some form or another – indefinitely.
i also think that you should make a machinema about this if not at least make a big ending
