Sorry for the absence of my comments recently. Goddamn school.
Anyways, I’m a little lost. How many Viper teams are there? What do they mean when they refer to the “Array” being shut off? Surely not the Halo Array? What then?
And it looks like Archimedes has some important information in there…perhaps some sought after location deep in outer space? Ten internet dollars says it’s the Ark. =)
i like how you said “nothing” instead of “no one” very nice
i love the word nominal…nom nom nom
why in the second frame when the leader notices the “bogey” do we not see it on the radar till the third frame?
im lovin’ the suspense, but i still wonder what reclaimer and the cavalcade are up to
Somehow I don’t think there’s going to be much of Beta left to recall…
Jim, this is my favorite comic. Keep up the good work!
@ JimboMonkey1234 – I’ve mentioned it in the comments a couple of times, but there are seven Viper squads, each made up of seven members. And the array is the slipspace array, which HAS been mentioned in the comic at least twice.
@ PikminGod – That’s a deliberate thing. The monitoring system for the array specifically maintains an ongoing status check for the dishes in the array. Now they’re a new signal in the array, even though it’s impossible for a new dish to have suddenly appeared. And the tardiness of the blip on the screen is simply matter of perspective. Call it a bad angle and too much distance from the screen to see it in the second panel.
@ bansheflier – We’ll get back to them eventually. Promise.
@ Rosco128 – We’ll see.
@ CrazyJimbo – Awesome! I’m glad you enjoy it so much!
OMG I need to go back and re-read them all again. I think I am confusing myself.
Also…is there a chat program here? And if so did someone try to chat with me…if so sorry I can’t connect at work. =(
@ mendicantbias00 – What are you confused about? And sort of – I use Woopra to watch my site traffic in realtime. It’s kind of cool to watch people come to the site and read, to see where they’re reading from, and to see what it is they’re reading. A handful of regular readers/commenters are tagged in Woopra, so I can see who they are, and there’s a built-in chat function that lets me contact a reader while they’re on the site. Readers can respond by clicking the name of the user (i.e. me) contacting them. It’s a pretty nifty program.
Ahh ok, sorry I didnt respond. I tried but our network is pretty good about blocking things like that. though if you have AIM, just type in my name.
Oh I just feel like i need a refresher, there are a lot of subplots and I don’t want to get to an epic moment and be lost. Also…where is our Reclaimer…i kinda miss him. _
Its not just Viper that can’t catch a break, but it really doesn’t seem like Reclaimer can catch a break either. And Ferial has never really needed or had a use for a break. What ever happened to good luck Jim, what happened to it???
@ mendicantbias00 – Ah, that makes sense.
And as for the Reclaimer, we’ll get back to him, just like we’ll get back to Ferial. Hehe, I can’t tell everyone’s story at the same time.
@ Taterific – I don’t believe in good luck.
Besides, you should be getting the idea that there are things happening that have been planned out a LONG time before either Viper or the Reclaimer came on the scene, so it follows that Viper’s best-laid plans are going to be thwarted, re-routed, and complicated along the way.
@Jim: Really? I’ll have a look into Woopra. [Can I has Woopra tag?]
I have a feeling the new one has a codename of 890K.
Forerunner Slipspace protocols? Possibly there are more dishes that are not discovered?
PS. It seems to me the titles of comic releases seem less epic than before. Maybe this one could be renamed Slipspace Protocol?
@ Shu Sam Chen (HSAR) – You already have a Woopra tag, I believe. Woopra’s nice in that it automatically assigns tags to readers who leave comments. It’s a nice program for tracking your site’s traffic in real-time.
I sense a new fan fiction arising from today’s comic.
And yeah, it’s hard sometimes to come up with good titles for every one of these.
Yeah… I had one coming a few days ago, but now I’m autopsying it for today.
So Ferial sets up viper to shut down the power, which let’s “something” loose to possibly prey upon the Beta Squad and who knows what else. Wonder if it will replicate and take over all of Beta? At first I thought the “something” was another of the Cavalcade but I don’t think it would be since Ferial is trying to keep them apart, so this is another AI and/or a Virus. Maybe this is one of the three voices that we heard from earlier? Need more info…..............!
@HSAR – Is there a way of telling where your fan fiction ties in with which Reclaimer (i.e. fan fic #8 goes with Reclaimer #83-86) or can we assume by the date they are published or are they not directly tied to the comic? Impatiently waiting for #9….........no pressure though.
@Distefant: Check the forums; FF09 is already out.
Well, I would say that Fan Fictions could be considered small plot reveals in themselves. I rarely have the insight to write them to tie in for a long time ahead; usually at most a few episodes.
Yes, they are tied into the storyline. As much as I could possibly make them.
OK, I know that this has already been said, but…..I wanna see Reclaimer! No more reading big words!I seriously have a dictionary when I read these comics. I WANT ACTION!
@ Distefant –
@ mysterioso2006 – Hah! Just think of what I’m contributing to your vocabulary.
Never fear – we’ll get back to the Reclaimer and the Cavalcade soon enough.
it always seems like 2 comics into focusing on one group, people start wondering when we are going to get back to another group…crazy
I agree. It’s hard to tell a story by just randomly flipping to one group every comic.
As for what the blip is, well, ff #9 suggests that Legacy is messing with Ferial’s plans.
Your proficient way of telling a story that keeps me on the edge of my seat makes me proud of the Reclaimer Hoodie I just got in the mail! I can’t wait for Fall.
@silver fox- i was saying that it is weird that people keep asking ‘what about this group’ not that i agree with them…the switching at epic plot points is great cuz just when you are ready for the big reveal you get slapped with a new plot point from another group…then it switches back to that big reveal just as the 2nd group is ready for something big to happen…its great
I was agreeing with you, PikminGod.
Why don’t we all agree to disagree?
Or to just love the comic? Even better.
@ the silver fox – Well, something is definitely happening, but it’s certainly not Legacy’s doing.
@ Bearded Phantom – I’m glad you like the shirt! It looks really sharp!
@Jim: Do you have shipping rates for Europe?
@ Shu Sam Chen (HSAR) – It’s $6 for Canada and $7 for International shipping. There will also likely be customs fees, but I think those are different for every country and so there’s no real way to predict those.
Nice Episode Jim. I love the suspense you draw from every comic. It really ticks me off sometimes, though.
We’re supposed to read too much into things, right? I just saw “RL” and made a guess. Even if I were right, I would still have no idea how that came about.
Although I still think that the “unknown” in ff #9 is what has been revealed here in some way (either it is the bogey or it has something to do with the bogey). Of course, I could just be reading too much into things again, but can we have any fun discussions without that? I don’t think so.
Deus ex machina belli – God from the machine of war.
Rampant speculation ftw!
And @ JimboMonkey: amen to that.
Maybe….maybe not. Of course, I’ve already given something away just by replying. Read into that what you will.
Scientium potestas est. ~Knowledge is power.
Hooray for Latin.
Something Ferial has said in the past: Alea iacta est.
Wonder when we’re going to see him again
is it just me, or are the seargeant and the grunt the wrong way round in the second frame?
It's the camera angle that makes it seem that way.
