Sounds like viper and reclaimer aren’t the only pawns in this storyline…
So Ferial is carrying out the will of another? Intriguing… Though I suspect that Ferial has his own plans… How did that go again? “Plans within plans…”
wow this is getting good =]
i may enter the compo, depends on my mood
I have a feeling that something will be interfering with these plans…and that either the Cavalcade has underestimated Ferial's strength, or that Ferial has underestimated the Cavalcade's strength as a full unity. Whether or not anything can stop these plans…Reclaimer really needs to get through all the conspiracies quickly, before everything reaches critical mass. But remember, "There is no immovable object. Everything gives if you push hard enough" -Didact
"Oh, and your poet Eliot had it all wrong,
THIS is the way the world ends."
Oh my God I love Ferial. I love his warped perceptions, his patience, and his ability to manipulate everything around him.
Kudos Jim! Extremely well done!
“So I wander what is “Salvation” to Ferial and his Master? Can’t wait to find out… Well done.
@ Rosco128 – Ah, but it Ferial truly a pawn? That is the question.
@ Sangheilioz – Plans within plans, indeed.
@ DUM4S5 – Please do! The more, the merrier – and you DO have three weeks within which to work.
@ mendicantbias00 – Thanks! Ferial does seem to be a fan favorite.
@ spillits – That is the real question here and the single factor driving this whole storyline. There have been some hints dropped throughout the Reclaimer storyline, but I don’t think there’s been enough yet to really spell out the scope of the problem.
@Jim: The last frame is unclear. Is the entity called “Salvation”? or is he referring to the salvation of all?
“Little Helper”? wink wink
When ever I hear a covenant say salvation I think of the rings. But, who’s to say Ferial is even an Elite and not morphed into the form of one? Oh, what a tangled web.
@ Shu Sam Chen (HSAR) – You should be able to refer back to the first panel to answer that question.
yay for CS!!
and the choice of CS leads me to believe that the flood have something to do with ferials plan…did ferials armor change or is it just the lighting
Just the lighting. It’s still the Raptor/assault armor.
Jim – I have a feeling the map Blackout might work pretty well with some future scene. Also, it has a windsock!
Also, a question for the competition. Does it have to have to four people? I’ve only got two controllers.
@ PikminGod – No, it was just the lighting. I haven’t changed Ferial’s armor permutations since the first day.
@ DeathGrunty – Yeah, I only have two controllers myself. I have to do clever things with overlaying multiple screenshots and using layer masks to make it look like I have more people. The other option is to co-opt some of your buddies and make them stand in as puppets for you. I’ve done that a couple of times, as well, and it generally works out pretty well.
or you could get a friend to loan you a controller or two?
ya i’m trying to blend and crop multiple images into one, but it looks like crap cuz gimp is crap
Oh….I can’t take part in the contest. I haven’t got XBL.
Well, I do have one thing to say: the multitude of straight lines in the forerunner architecture make this comic look even more authentically hand-drawn than others (just a comment on asthetics, nothing more). Close-ups of Spartans tend to break up the look.
No matter what, keep it up.
I'm on Forums now! So you're telling me you are ASSIGNED a password?! WHY WAS I NOT TOLD?! And it was sent to my spam folder! =( Well it's all good now!
“There will be no more Sadness. No more Anger. No more Envy.”
There will only be Ferial, his master, and the AI/virus that is going to be unleashed.
Plus whatever is left of the rest of the world (which can’t be much).
As Ferial said, the will can only be suppressed, and how better to do so than from the throne of an acendant empire that avoids the problem altogether: I have a bad feeling the virus will soon be directed against the Cavalcade, the Reclaimer, and everyone else in the galaxy.
@ PikminGod – Next up, a tutorial on layer masking. That’s how I do all my images that have more than two characters, and GIMP does it just as well as Photoshop. You just have to know how.
@ Matoro3311 – That sucks, man. I’m sure I’ll do a contest down the road that doesn’t require XBL.
@ the silver fox – That may well be, but the story’s about the characters just as much as about the technology, so closeups are all part of the process.
I find that the characters ”[breaking] up the look” is a good thing, it gives a visual representation of the characters being caught up in things that are alien to them, and being surrounded by these plans that they cannot control. The contrast in style between the environment and the characters underscores that they are merely players on a stage that has been set long in the past.
Sorry, artistic philosophical moment…
I’m not saying that that is bad, I’m just saying that the very first panel jumps out at me as looking like a colored scetch of Cold Storage. It’s the forerunner lines and the relative uniformity that does it. And on the last panels the walls look almost like monochromatic stained glass.
I never said it was bad either, so it’s good to know we are in agreement on the awesomeness of Bungie’s art. =P
So now who is pulling the strings?
That’s one of the key mysteries, though, isn’t it? If we knew exactly who was pulling the strings, there wouldn’t be as much suspense. Although I doubt that the real puppet master is Ferial.
“Your overconfidence is your weakness,:
-Luke Skywalker, in Return of the Jedi
why would ferial want reclaimer to reunite the cavalcade when he’s the one who seperated them in the first place
@ bansheeflier – To be clear, Ferial didn’t separate the Cavalcade. The Forerunner did that. What Ferial did do was temporarily isolate a couple of members of the Cavalcade so that their functions were limited (see the exchange at Visual Echoes).
ok just wondrin
Although I’m sure the “stained glass” look that I see was unintentional, it still adds a deeper meaning, like this is some kind of demonic or satanic shrine…
Anyway, sorry about the random story excerpt I posted in number 88. I would have put that in the forums, but I do not have a profile for it set up yet.
@ the silver fox – Not a problem. I went ahead and set up a forum specifically for that sort of thing. Get a profile set up, and then feel free to post any bits that you want in there.
This is Awesome!
wow i want to get in a mlg contest i will win
Looks like Ferial is a bishop-versitile and deadly, all while serving and protecting the weak but important king.
The reclaimer a knight-able to leap over obstacles and strike where least expected
Ferial is more like the Queen—and the Knight. And the Rook. And the bishop. And the Pawns. Hell, even the King. The dude is way powerful.
