i love the layered text!!!
really think they are still going to have defibrillaters that far in the future?
“Good. My skin’s starting to itch.”
i would have prefered
“Good. My liver’s starting to itch.”
someone submitted!! yay!! i finished tonight, and scrapped the whole thing cause i realized that as the comic went on i got better with GIMP so it got better…so i’m re-doing the whole thing…o btw you should ask bungie if they are willing to give recon to the winner! I mean it can’t hurt to ask right?
i would have to agree with pikmin about the recon it realy cant hurt o and that hoodie and other stuff thats only for the winner right
@ PikminGod – Good! I liked the way the layered text came out, as well.
Why wouldn’t they still use defibrillators? It’s not like people aren’t still going to have problems with their hearts. So, yes, that’s entirely probable.
Liver? Really?! C’mon now – that just doesn’t make sense.
Well, there’s plenty of time to submit your entries, so definitely use as much of that time as you need to make sure your final product is as polished as it can be.
@ bansheeflier – We’ll see about the Recon.
And yes, the winner will be receiving the autographed print and the sweatshirt. It is a competition, after all.
I loved the Cavalcade text as well…its perfect!
Nice to see Reclaimer again Jim!
Good job on yet another comic. The font is cool, just be careful with the drop shadow, it can get difficult to read.
@ spillits – Just imagine how it feels for the Reclaimer to have two voices buzzing the same words into his head simultaneously.
I’m guessing that if it hurts that much when they merge, Reclaimer isn’t going to survive if they have to be seperated again.
well i’m back! whoa did the reclaimer merge with the “chief” ?
“Cavalcada”? < < second-to-last panel.
typo check completed… loading critique algorithm…
Not bad, I love how you used the Overshield here. As a side note, for other AI constructs or whatever, you should try doing an overshield-camo combo. It makes for a great effect, as the result looks like a being made entirely out of energy. Just set it so the leader has both camo and OS and have your AI character kill someone before you set up your shots.
Keep ‘em coming, Jim!
@ Chanchu Mohan – Negatory! Abort! Abort!
@ Sangheilioz – That’s… not a typo.
It’s a wierd corruption of Cavalcade… possibly because Cavalcade is plural, so Cavalcada is singular; meaning single Cavalcade member.
@ Shu Sam Chen (HSAR) – There you go.
Ooh.. pretty text… I mean.. Good job! =D Working on my own contribution to the competition. Off to Photoshop!
i like the layered text idea but its playing havoc on my irlens, makes it very difficult to read, i’m having to strain to distinguish the words from just beeing a block of writing.
Double spacing with a slightly larger gap between the lines would probably be helpfull if your going to continue the writing like this
Just imagine what things would be like with THREE members of the Cavalcade in his head…by the way, which voice is Resplendant Legacy and which is Reticent Mystery? There should be some distinction, since they aren’t speaking in unison the whole time.
I assume red is one of them and blue is another.
Wait, so when both Red and Blue Calvacada combine completely… gasp They will create a PURPLE CALVACADA
Oh, SOOOOOOOOO funny, HSAR.
Hey Jim, are you resorting back to Reclaimer’s original color scheme for good now?
Oh, and don’t forget to flip the outside of the base!
I love this comic.Just sayin.
Finally!Reclaimers back! His constant bombardment of questions! His snarky sied-comments! His trigger finger that never stops pressing down! Wait…..really, I am glad hes back. Putting away that dictionary till further notice. One complaint, though. Could you use that Bleue/Red text thing as little as possible?
Really good follow up to the previous reclaimer comics. I love how you meld humor into a serious situation and make the story that much more worth reading!
just wait till he has all the members of the cavalcade…its going to be like 7 colors all put together on top of one another!! awesome!
Seeing as I don’t really have anywhere good to put this (other than on an older comic), here is a selection from a story I am working on. Keep in mind that this IS a Halo story but is NOT a Reclaimer story. And no matter how hard my friend pushes, his character will remain a Marine Corps Captain and not be a Navy Captain. Please forgive the random injection of this.
KEYS TO THE CRYPT
…Captain Dowling looked up and saw several ships coming out of slipspace above the supercarrier. “What would those ships be doing, General?” he asked.
“Those would be the ships bringing the Aurelias soldiers here,” she answered. “Come on, I’m going to show you the inside of the ship.”
The Habakkuk was, apart from its sheer size, a lot like other UNSC carriers, in that the corridors and rooms were built according to conventional design. There were, however, several modifications that made this supercarrier unique.
“The primary armament for this ship includes two MAC guns and the prototype Spacebolt laser. The energy demands of those three weapons are such that the ship has one reactor devoted exclusively to powering them,” Sami pointed out. “This carrier will also carry into battle several smaller prototype ships. The primary example is the Arctic Hawk. Two powerful engines for its size, a variety of anti-armor weapons, and a small laser, equivalent to about five Spartan Lasers. The ship was designed mostly for atmospheric combat, which is why it has four large airfoils on the rear of the aircraft. It can carry several Pelican loads of Marines, as well as a few warthogs and mongooses.”
“You had me at the word laser, General. This Arctic Hawk looks especially cool. And…”
“Enough drooling over the weapons, Captain. Why don’t I take you to meet the ship’s AI, Aurora?” They walked over to a door leading from the hangar bay to the rest of the ship. “Just one second,” Sami said as she began to type THIS IS LIEUTENANT GENERAL HARTFORD on a wall mounted computer above a holotank.
Before she could finish typing, the words PLEASE ENTER VERIFICATION KEYS appeared on the screen.
“Dammit,” muttered the general. “You’re not going to make this easy for me, are you?” She typed in DO NOT GO QUIETLY INTO THE NIGHT. She was then prompted for a second access key, which was answered by YOU HAVE BEEN CALLED UPON TO SERVE.
The AI’s avatar finally appeared. Where have I seen that before, thought Captain Dowling, where have I…oh my God. He stared at the hologram with a look of stunned amazement on his face as he recognized the figure before him. There is no way…
The AI turned to Sami. “Well, hello again, General. You finally decided to show up.”
“Nice to see you again, Commander. Welcome back.”
Guess who the AI used to be and maybe you’ll win something.
by the way, how do you use italics?
@ nomis78 – I kind of implied it in a previous comic, but the overlay was a deliberate attempt to portray the dissonance in the Reclaimer’s own mind at hearing two voices simultaneously. So, if it’s messing with your eyes, then it’s with good reason.
@ the silver fox – You’ll have to dig into the archives a little. Remember how one Cavalcada that the Reclaimer met was blue, and the other reddish-orange?
Yes, I do recall that Legacy’s text was orange, but I don’t ever remember Mystery’s text being blue (It was actually red when they were in the shatterbox).
@ the silver fox – Hehe, you’re not supposed to compare it to previous text!
Otherwise, no, I don’t get it. Legacy was just a custom power-up, and Mystery was represented by a tan and yellow spartan (and an overshield in the shatterbox). I don’t see where the blue is coming from.
And you still haven’t said around what year this is taking place! Are you deliberately avoiding that question?
maybe soo but its messing with them too the point its nearlly impossible to read
@Jim
That’s why I included a ”?”. =P
@the silver fox
I would guess: Commander Miranda Keyes? And I enjoyed the excerpt. I would love to see more of it at some point.
You would be correct, Sanghellioz, and I’m glad you liked it. The next excerpt will probably be posted in the forums sometime.
I should probably get onto the forums at some point then. =P
Wow… a fourth forum member…
@the silver fox: THIS IS HSAR.
DO NOT GO EASY INTO THAT GOOD NIGHT.
YOU WILL BECOME THE BEST WE CAN MAKE YOU.
What’s my AI going to be?
@the silver fox
Wasn’t the AI, Aurora, the teacher in the military training acadamy that John trained on as a child?
Also, I hope you’ll change “cool” in “You had me at the word laser, General. This Arctic Hawk looks especially cool. And…”
@HSAR: either die and send me your brain or send me a flash cloned one with all your memories on it. This event takes place in 2554.
@nevets 91: I have no idea. I actully haven’t read any of the Halo novels, so I am going off what I can find on Halopedia, and the only mention of any “aurora” of any kind is when it is talking about the “aurora borealis” in the skies of the map Blackout (which, since the station is in Antarctica, is actually the aurora australis, or southern lights. but I digress). If this is a major plot conflict with the Halo series, let me know so I can fix that detail.
The idea was for that to serve as another reflection of the AI once being Miranda Keyes, because in Halo 3 she commands the Forward unto Dawn during the battle on the Ark, and Aurora is the Roman goddess of the dawn.
As for the word “cool”, well, that is a reflection of my writing skills (which I will admit are not the best) and of the way my friend who Captain Dowling is based on thinks. Just consider this a first draft.
@the silver fox: Okay… do you have a knife I can borrow?
@silver fox the current year in the reclaimer verse is 1774…reclaimer is actually john adams…just fyi
@ the silver fox – Ack, you’re right. I was thinking that Resplendent Legacy was blue, but that’s just because so much of Avalanche is blue.
Also, check my comment in the contest thread to answer your “When?” question.
@ HSAR: when do you need the knife?
@ PikminGod: yeah, well John Adams just got timeshifted to 2552.
@ Jim: Got it. I know I started it, but a lot of us were asking the question in the end.
After a few more, his head is gonna sound like the Borg! "You will be integrated!"
@ Minocc – It actually gives me a headache thinking about what that must do to his head to hear those two voices speaking into it. The Reclaimer is going to have to buy stock in ibuprofen before this all over.
IbuprofenDoken!! lol
