i wonder who is telling this? a cavalcada in RC’s mind or one that has yet to be assimilated…i wonder if after this when reclaimer’s mind explodes from too much cavalcade knowledge if he will ascend to a state of only mind and then there will be 8 cavalcade? just a random thought i just had…
Jim, are you saying that the cavalcade was “born” not “constructed”? This would imply that the cavalcade are in fact not mere AI, but sentient beings that exist only as a conscience, and that the forerunners learned how to contain them by use of the shatterboxes? Do the precursors exist in the Reclaimerverse?
So the Cavalcade have been around since the beginning? Or perhaps this was simply the “big bang” of the digital universe, separate from the physical universe…
I see this as saying that the Cavalcade was essentially AI sentience without having to go through rampancy to get there. But that is interesting. From the information we had before this, it seemed Benignant Charity was the only Cavalcada to come about from SCG. Maybe more of them did.
For clarity’s sake, the last panel in today’s comic is one I picked out of a random search of haloscreenshots.net and is off the structure on Earth opening up to release the Dreadnought.
Also, bear in mind that the monologue in today’s comic is the perspective of one of the Cavalcada, internal to its ‘birth’, its creation. What it experienced is going to feel different to it than what an outside observer might actually see. This monologue is also an extremely compacted and lyrical version of events that took several millennia to occur in real-time.
@ PikminGod – No; then, I think he’d just be dead.
@ BFish – I have no answers for you here, at least not yet.
@ nightwolf717 – The gallery is online now, under the Fan Creations link up above.
@ mysterioso2006 – I agree. I’m curious as to how you think this solves the mystery of Ferial.
@ Bearded Phantom – Yes, indeed. The Forerunner did create the Cavalcade, each member in turn over a series of millennia. Today’s monologue is not necessarily a contradiction of those events.
@ Amer then00b – Number 100 in just a couple of days, and we’re about ten days out from the one-year anniversary of this comic.
Nice turn of events to show the AI’s self awareness and their perspective of how they were “born”. This should provide a nice twist on how they view the other sentient species. Do they feel they are better than all the rest or equals? Hmmm, probably not the latter I would guess.
Ooh. Interesting.. So while the Forerunners built them, the Cavalcada felt as it it was born, then evolved, or what? It may be right in front of me, but I’m tired as hell.
Also, Jim, where’d you get the P from on my entry? In the file name it was supposed to be DG (deathgrunty) pg (page) #; I just didn’t think to space it.
@Sangheilioz
I am interested in discovering more of their philosophical views on the universe. I am sure that they have a plan/goal for their/our future, I am just curious as to what that really entails. It can’t be to just stop Ferial and then go away. Powerful entities are not know to be so benevolent without some sort of payback.
@ DG
Those are some of the questions that I have also. Jim’s going to make us wait and see.
Patience is a virtue and I am not know to be too virtuous most days.
Keep em’ rollin’ Jim, looking forward to #100 tonight!!!!
I’ve come back from the dead like a flood-infected body!!!
~P.S. Sorry about leaving you guys for the length of time. I’ve got too much schoolwork, and too much breakdancing, and too much performing, and too much time away from my computer…
Until the next time we meet…goodbye, but remember like a good Flood, I’ll be back for my craving of Reclaimer. Yummy!
@ Uzi_Master: Oh Noes! teh Flood is here! In all seriousness (and in correct grammar), I wil say that your reasons for not commenting are not all acceptable.
Too much schoolwork: acceptable (I am a student myself)
Too much breakdancing: lol
Too much performing: acceptable
Too much time away from your computer: unacceptable! You make time for it!
(okay, mostly correct grammar, not entirely serious)
This feels a little like a deus ex moment – "Then someone flipped a switch" – but then again, it has no real impact on an otherwise awesome storyline. I love this series! You really should consider turning this into a book (with Bungie's permission, of course).
Heh, someone is in for a surprise.

I think Eternal Refuge is saying this perhaps?

Their big bang makes me think of the AI in iRobot…curiouser and curiouser!
Now this is pretty interesting…
I’d love to know how or where you got the shot in the final panel from
i think that last shot is the ground opening up and the dreadnought sinking down to power the portal.
It’s a shot of the portal on Earth, just as it’s opening up.
He’s photoshopped it a bit to make it look like awesome sauce.
Nice. I love these scenic comics!
Wow…. This is going to open a whole new Massive Part of the reclaimer comics
Nice Sci Fi ness
I know your busy Jim ( Nice New Post ) But is the gallery coming soon ????
What the hell is the last picture of?
that answers the question of Ferial being an AI. The way this story is going, itll go on for at least a year!
How does that solve the issue of Ferial being an AI?
Not sure… I thought Jim you said that the Forerunners created the Calvacade or was that something we implied?
One more comic till the big three! Can’t wait.
One more thing: Happy almost Birthday, Reclaimer!
So the Cavalcade have been around since the beginning? Or perhaps this was simply the “big bang” of the digital universe, separate from the physical universe…

Well that does explain a lot thanks jim… Which Calvacada is speaking though? The newly escapee from Ferial perhaps; the one with a grudge against him?
So, the plot thickens.
I love the angle this comic is comming from.
Also, that sure is a mouth full jim

@ Distefant
Or perhaps they do not view either themselves or others as superior, but only different?

A little bit, maybe. More, it was an expression of the activation of the first of the Cavalcada.
