they made the flood
and they control viper
poor reclaimer…
Stares and blinks rapidly My mind is blown…
dum dum dummmmm!
Oh my god, two Ferial type people.
So, Thiiiisss is the big reveal you didn’t want to reveal last comic.
ok…............ive been able to follow everything pretty well do far, but now…... im just lost. If this pans out right, it may come together for me.
larrykan: Poor Reclaimer, indeed. It’s going to be an uphill battle the whole way.
Sangheilioz: I’ll take that as a compliment.
nevets 91: Oh, no. No, it’s not. I’m still holding onto that one. No, this is a different reveal, although it’s related to the one I’ve alluded to.
Death Punisher: Well, if you’re confused it’s because I’ve deliberately thrown a monkey wrench into everything you think you know about the Reclaimerverse up to this point. Stay tuned, though; everything will get sorted out.
Wow jim, good story twist,
i wonder if they are like the calvacade and able to take physical shape. That would explain them rising up. It might also be that they are the AI before calvacade and somehow tied to them??
There’s gray matter on the wall behind me.
Translation: Blew my mind.
Ferial has an evil twin!! o wait….
i like panel two, and as i was reading i thought ferial was like an entitiy of the gravemind, but you blew that out of the water
why would ferial be containing a Cavalvada if he wanted them to combine?
HolyJunkie: Haha, I love how you phrased that.
PikminGod: Theories, anyone? I mean, I know the reason behind the apparent contradiction, but I’m curious to see what everyone else thinks.
He’s captured two cavacada?
Related to the hostile attack in the lastest fan fic, or is he talking about another pair of cavalcada?
@PikminGod: maybe he’s going to implant a virus into him/it.
Shu Sam Chen (HSAR): Remember early on in the comic, around the time we first met Viper? Ferial had an extended dialogue with a Cavalcada. And again on Standoff Outpost, an extended dialogue with a different Cavalcada. Both have been captured and isolated by Ferial for reasons yet unknown.
Zo-Mai-Gar!
The Ferials are containing them to motivate them into reuniting? Giving them a specific enemy to unite against, I mean. Or perhaps the containment is simply to slow down Reclaimer’s progress, so that he finishes his work at the “proper time”?
It seems obvious to me now that Ferial is not an organism, but rather a construct, or perhaps a virus that has “infected” Sangheili (kinda like the virus that infected Viper). That, or Ferial is simply able to assume a physical form like the Cavalcada we ran into at High Ground…
Jim, have you ever considered writing a novel? It’s a bit different format than a comic, but I feel like you’d be able to pull it off quite nicely.
I read that last sentence and can’t…help…myself….....
This was a triumph. I’m making a note here: HUGE SUCCESS.
It’s hard to overstate my sastifaction!
Maybe Ferial is the virus only manifested into physical form.
An anti- version of the cavalcave
Holy Blamming Blam!
“effectively part of us”
Reclaimer better figure out how to stop the Ferials from spreading their mind over all sentient beings, or everyone is screwed.
What I tend to find most interesting in Jim’s work is the lack of any real “deus ex machina” moments (not talking about digitalph33r’s machinima). Any time Reclaimer gets out of a jam, he gets back into one damn quick. Even with his latest escape, this comic only serves to reinforce the idea that not only are his efforts futile, the goal he is working toward is not what he thinks it is.
So Jim, when are you going to do the story arc on teh Covenant?
Sangheilioz: I’ve done some amount of short story writing. Nothing that I’ve sold anywhere (I haven’t actively pursued that market yet), but yeah, writing a novel has never been far from my mind. One of these days, perhaps…
TTL OboeCrazy: So. You like?
the silver fox: The story arc on the Covenant is going to be a separate project. Right now I have my hands full just with the current one, so I can’t make any promises as to when you’ll be seeing that. I’m not even sure what format that project will take. I do know that I would like to keep a Reclaimerverse comic of some sort going indefinitely, but I really want to be able to work in some machinima and short stories, too. Needless to say, my plans right now are bigger than I have time for.
I still wonder if these two characters are just biological creatures.
I have yet to see any definite proof that they are anything else, but I’ve also yet to see any proof that they are. I ask you, Jim, what are these beings?!
Nevets 91: Oh, but that would be telling, wouldn’t it?
wait just a sec…(cleans brains that are splattered all over the couch)
Ok. First, Ferial is a forerunner…that must be it. The other Ferial guy is reffering to their failure to control the flood.
Second, one of the forerunner must have disgused as a human to then be in control of the UNSC.
Third, Reclaimer is in for a nice suprise when the cavalcade reform.
And lastly, Ferial is still my favorite, but I thought he was like that loner bad-guy type, like emporer Palpatine.
_@ mysterioso2006: I still don’t think Ferial is Forerunner. I think he came before that.
Reclaimer is in for a nice surprise?! (Don’t worry, I recognize the sarcasm)
Of course Ferial isn’t the loner type. We were just meant to think that.
Aparently, Ferials are the new Gravemind. I have to admit, Sangheili assault armor looks a lot better on the evil mind bent on controling the universe than does green and orange and brown fungus-like crap. Or crap-like fungus. However you see it.
I think that Viper are forerunner, and I believe that Ferial wants the Cavalcade together, but he needs them under his power. Therefore he’s letting reclaimer gather the ones he can, but he wants reclaimer to bring the fight to him. Also, Ferial may be a Rampant Forerunner AI that was cut down or “broken down” much like the Alpha in RVB. Either that or he’s like, jesus. Who knows?
Well, Jim, if you ever need a peer editor, I’m your man. I have a group of friends that are all amateur writers like myself, and we use each other for peer editing and brainstorming. I’m more than willing to offer such a service to you.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . blinks rapidly then passes out
. . . . . . . wakes up 2 hours later TWO FERIALS
wow wee. that was a shocker.
keep the ‘mind blowing’ twists coming!!!
Dun dun dun…
OM MY GOD, well this ep just blows my mind, wow, thats all i can really say, wow
Hmm, well all we can do now is sit back and wait. Wait for Jim to give us a little bit more. BTW, Viper is a roge UNSC super soldier squad and, untill reacently, nothing more, nothing less.
@ Jim: Yes, plans are always bigger than we have time for. In my case, trying to make more Reclaimer fanfics is on hold until I can set up a second XBL profile, get an unscratched Halo 3 disk, and (hopefully) unlock the Vidmaster achievements to get Recon (who saw it coming, give me a show of hands. raises own hand). In the meantime, my halo fanfics have been (predictably) taking much longer than I anticipated.
@ Acrowleftthemurder: No, Ferial is not Jesus. More like the antichrist (who in reality was the Roman emperor Nero).
mysterioso2006: Huh…
Acrowleftthemurder: I can safely say that Viper is human. They’re not old enough to be Forerunner.
Sangheilioz: Thanks for the offer, man. If I ever get myself back to writing long form again, I’ll certainly let you know.
S5-Unit: There’s a lot of that going around.
I’ve just read your comics and they are awesome. I’m thinking you should make a prologue though. One question, if there is 7 cavaclade, will you make them look different, or have ones the same colour?
xFTWx Krevil: Hey, Krevil, I’m glad you like Reclaimer! What kind of prologue are thinking of, though? I’m pretty content with the way the storyline plays out right now. Is there something in particular you’d like to see fleshed out? Cavalcade colors is going to be tricky, and I’m not entirely sure how I’m going to handle that yet, since there are more Cavalcada than their are power-up colors.
Who says they have to be power-ups?
nevets 91: Well, I’ve been using power-ups to represent the various Cavalcada. You have another idea that might work?
AT LAST, MY QUESTION HAS BEEN ANSWERED. But no.. Are Ferial & his friend like some sort of Forerunners?
Jim, if you put the power-ups on top of each other they will change to different colors.
I predict that there will be some Chaos involved in the near future…
My odd two cents. I’m not entirely convinced that Ferial is as we see him, but possibly something similar to the way Viper is now. Perhaps a replicating intelligence spreading similar to the Flood concept, it is just the phrase “in fact, effectively part of us” that makes me curious.
I assume I was correct about the forerunner AI part then? Because I see no correction of that statement
Also, I think maybe Ferial MAY be part of the cavalcade, and they refuse to acknowledge him, much like the “Family shame”
Acrowleftthemurder: My policy on reader speculation is that I simply don’t comment, unless it’s on a detail that’s already been revealed in the storyline. This way I don’t unintentionally give away something that’s yet to come. So, if you speculate and I don’t comment, all that means is that I didn’t comment.
Hmm….”The Flood was our greatest failure,” I mean, wow. The Flood that more or less caused the self destruction of a species with Tier 1 technology? I mean, the Flood is pretty insidious (a little annoying in the game sometimes, but in theory they’re nothing to sneeze at), and if that was Ferial and co’s greatest failure…then what they’re planning is really going to make some heads explode. If this is true, Ferial and his friend aren’t Forerunner, but perhaps enemies of the Forerunner, since I believe the Flood are extra-galactic.
Did I mention that I love this comic? I would love to see some machinima ^^ and such.
Actually, the Flood were adopted Tier 2 tech, and native Tier 7. Also, Jim stated that the Flood in the Reclaimerverse are much more lethal and dangerous than the Flood in the Haloverse (which is impressively frightening to think about).
I believe the simplest explanation for the strength of the Flood in the Reclaimerverse is one of two things:
1. Only Jim knows.
2. The Flood is already at the coordinated stage (assuming Ferials have direct control over the Flood) when the Forerunners find it. Or it finds the Forerunners.
I was referring to the Forerunners when I mentioned Tier 1; my fault for not being clear, sorry. I shudder to think, that the Flood are actually more of a threat in Reclaimerverse and already at the coordinated stage.
Is salvation older than the forerunners?...
Wait, WHAT!? Two Ferials!? I'm so confused!!
Jim, I've been looking at your comics all the way through. I'm just going to fill you in on something, though:
The Flood could not have been made. They are an extragalactic viral organism capable of horrendous mutation and evolution. There is no way Ferial could have created them.
And, what Installation is Reclaimer on? So far, there is only one other Installation capable of harboring Human life, and I believe it is 03.
One thing I made clear at the outset of Reclaimer is that this is not the same universe that we've all come to love in the Halo video games. It's very, very similar in most aspects, but there are little details here and there that have been changed to make it a universe unto itself.
That said, the Flood do still originate from outside the Milky Way galaxy. This fact is not mutually exclusive to Ferial's creation of the Flood infection, but it does provide some insight into Ferial's origins, as well.
To answer your second question, the Reclaimer is not on any installation, nor has he visited any on his travels. In the Reclaimerverse, the Halo network has yet to be discovered. There are, however, many other Forerunner structures positioned on various planets, moons, asteroids, etc. throughout the galaxy, and it is to several of these that the Cavalcade have taken our intrepid hero.
