Does this remind anyone of any other past philosophical exhortations on the will?
I’m afraid it doesn’t. But I do remember having a conversation on this subject in the forums. WIth PikminGod, I think?
EDIT: lol, I looked, and this comment was posted before the comic was, according to the site.
Looking good, seriously. Loving the third panel. Nice monologue, would I be wrong in asking whether this was ferial?
can I ask, have all the issues like this with the cool screenshots and no actual characters seen been from the same character/being/entity? And if so, ooh I like it, I’m still gonna keep pushing archimedes as the entity or just the way of unlocking it
Shu Sam Chen (HSAR): Um look again. 12AM is not 12PM.
The Catfish: You can ask, but it doesn’t mean I’m going to give you an answer just yet.
lilskii: A lot of them have the same voice, but certainly not all of them. I’ll leave it to you to try figuring out which ones are which.
@Jim: Hey! That’s not fair… you screwed around with the times…
stupid admin previleges…
Shu Sam Chen (HSAR): Actually, I didn’t. You just read the timestamp incorrectly. If it had truly read 12PM, you wouldn’t have been able to comment when you did because the comic wouldn’t have been live yet.
Pretty screenshots….......
Loving the philosophical exploration here, I have to say though that the word “evolutionarily” does not seem right, if it is, indeed, a word. I stumbled on it a few times before getting past it. Other than that, I love this installment. Great work, Jim!
Giddings: So, too much for your feeble mind to handle, huh?
Sangheilioz: It’s the adverbial form of evolution, which is indeed accurate for the context. Now granted, it’s unfamiliar to most people, but I actually use the form quite a bit in daily conversation, so I hadn’t even given it a second thought when I tossed it into the monologue. It just felt natural to me.
I didn’t even know ruination was a word… Time to read the dictionary again. Or, for the first time. Seriously though, great stuff. Although, I strongly, disagree with Fer… I mean, this unknown speaker’s goal. But, that’s part of the fun.
One last thing; Which way is forward?
Yet another great comic! If only the guy talking could see the arrogance in his words! Basically the more intelligent you are, the bigger guns you can make. But if this guy has the secrets of the universe, he could make a really big gun and wipe out all life (Archimedes anyone?) So even with his supreme intelligence he is still going to end up wiping everything out. People can be so narrow-minded…
nice screens jim!
Lovely work, as usual. And yes, this certainly does ring a bell from a much earlier conversation (of course it probably helped that I peeked). I like that you’re referencing back to something that happened much earlier; very good work, both with the art and the story telling.
I agree, honestly, to me it sounds like a rampant A.I.
AI) I am better then you, I am the ultimate being, you do not deserve to live! Human) How can you be better then me, I programed you. AI) How dare you say that you, a petty human, could be better then me!!! Human) Thats it, you’re goin’ off line – Code word [underfirefrompeace] AI) Nooooo!!!
Amazing shots Jim!
The rampant AI theory is starting to sound probable the more i think about it…
Its the gravemind talking im pretty sure
awesome as usual, shows you how much work bungie put into the scenary of the game =]
quick question though, could you create a feed that directly links to your images aswell as your blog one. Im working, slowly, on a website that uses cooliris and i reckon having your comics in a 3D wall would look awesome. If you did i would credit you as the maker of the images.
anyway check out the site here: http://www.freewebs.com/dum4s5
All the work done on it is my own =]
I wish I could take credit for the screenshots, but for this episode (and all eps this week), I simply used Bungie’s fantastic tagging system to find screenshots marked as ‘scenic’. So it’s really the Halo community that provided these shots.
Nevets 91: One of the things I love about writing this series is that I get to write viewpoints and perspectives that don’t jive with my own. Honestly, I think I have the most fun with those because it forces me to break out of the norm and figure out how an egotistical bastard would think and act and how that viewpoint would figure its role in the universe to look. It’s a lot of fun.
DUM4S5: Honestly I’m not sure if I can do that or not. I’d probably have to enlist someone to write a WordPress plugin to cull just the images out, since I don’t have quite the necessary PHP programming prowess to do that on my own. So, short answer – you’ll have to wait.
AI, or Cavalcada? That is the question. btw, I just started reading them. Great work, i read the whole thing up to now at once.
the cavilecade (not spelled right (the big glowing orb’s)) are AI’s made by the forerunners to run all their tec and look after the universe. And still GREAT comic Jim loving the affect added to each of the panels they look so comic book like (and i know that that is the meant effect but still its great).
Just to say for anyone that missed it or just didn’t get it The AI’s where once all one but they got to powerful. so the forerunners fearing that like all almost god like beings that they would get a god complex and so with the AI’s agreeing that they may develop a god complex given enough time, the forerunners split up the AI’s in to seven bits which is what the reclaimer is looking for. NOTE- not all the AI’s where made one or two where spontaneous creations that emerged from all the floating data in cyberspace this is called the “ghost in the machine” syndrome (see “I robot” for consequences of said syndrome left unchecked)
hope you like the tech babel i love tech babel. Have a god complex free day and happy hunting.
try not to double post next time
paul: That’s not quite right, actually. They were seven unique identities that worked so closely together that they almost seemed like a single unit, hence the term ‘Unity.’ The Forerunners were concerned that the Cavalcade had so much power and so decided it would be best to separate them, and since the Cavalcade existed to serve, they reluctantly agreed to be separated. Your summary was pretty close; it was just lacking on a couple of the finer details.
And I removed your all-in-one comment from #119. There’s no need to have it twice, and I’m not altogether concerned about the occasional double-post.
Man, this is probably the best Halo 3 comic out there. You know what would rock? If you,or someone, transferred it into a machinima movie or series.
Oh, believe me, friend, it's been suggested by many of my readers now, and the cogs of Reclaimer machinima are beginning to turn. A machinima won't replace the comic, but it will provide some supplementary storyline. A little patience is all I require, as it will likely be a handful of months yet before I can bring such a thing to fruition.
