yeah!!!! I was right!!! Archimedes is the key to everything (pretty much), but the real question is, who is controlling archimedes, but Im sure you’re goona toy with our minds abit more before you let us know that

Im loving the last week or so of comics (they’re all great but the last week or so has been particularly awesome), is this the big reveal or is that not quite it yet?

lilskii: This is not the big reveal, but it’s definitely building up to it. There are hints and clues here, though, that point more and more to the mind behind all this, especially when paired up with other episodes in the archive.

He is the …................................................................................... Gravemind or something similar. Although this isn’t using the actual Halo story line this is starting to sound pretty familiar in relation to what the Gravemind says during the campaign. He said he was trying to bring everlasting peace and yaddyaddayadda but still, get where I’m going with this? Anyone? Well fine, just cause I had a good idea…. I’m gonna be in my corner sulking if anyone needs me. :(

ShellShockNinja RE: No this being understands Archimedes but the it is actually with Viper at the moment. I think it’s escaped but this being definitely understands Archimedes. And Jim said pair up some comics to understand them or along those lines. Anyway, one of the first comics ferial said to the first Calvacade member “I want them to use Archimedes like the bludgeon it is” or something like that. So ferial understands it but i really don’t know who’s talking.

This monologue is so typical of Villains who gain some power and are now attempting to justify / rationalize their desired action.
AKA i am doing what i want, and this is why its ok (whether it destroys the world or not)
Good evil villain monologue writing Jim, you really hit the core of the genre

I don’t think I could have actually written one of those that didn’t include ”(censored) you, Ferial!”

    I agree with Spillits.

It’s not the Gravemind, because the flood was “their greatest failure”, if you recall.

I have an idea of what might be happening… but I’m going to hold my thoughts… You are getting pretty dang good at this, Jim. Not only have you effectively kept every one of yours guessing if the new information is your big surprise, or if it’s just a tiny acorn compared to the real thing, you’ve managed to out-do most people’s predictions.

  17. Jim (TTL Demag0gue)
    December 3, 2008 at 4:18 pm | #

DeathGrunty: What cracks me up is that, while some people have hit on a piece here and there, no one has yet even come close to guessing the final cause – which just pleases me to no end. :)

Great comic, as usual. I must say, I can’t wait for the big plot twist. To form a proper theory I’m going to have to re-read everything…not that I’m complaining :P

Archimedes absolutely loves circles. He probably could lever the world with this device. hint, hint, nudge, nudge

As for those who think this is the Gravemind, it cannot be, since Gravemind speaks in pure iambic heptameter.

Good story so far. Maybe I am wrong with my theory? :\
    Wikipedia rocks.

I wish you could have put more emphasis on Archimedes. It now seems rather important.

Could this be a Precursor? They were able to accelerate evolution. Archimedes could be a Forerunner, controlled by Precursor.

  24. Jim (TTL Demag0gue)
    December 3, 2008 at 9:29 pm | #

mysterioso2006: I haven’t put more emphasis on Archimedes up to this point primarily because Archimedes is a rather benign entity. It’s passive until acted upon, and since no one has issued it a command yet (Viper hasn’t even gotten around to that), it just sits in place. There’s really not much story there, as a result.

I personally love the whole “remember that thing from really far back that seemed important but kind of fell by the wayside and you all probably forgot about? Yeah, that’s kind of important now…” plot device. Keeps you on your toes, while also making you want to smack your forehead and say “OH YEAH!”

Hmm, I really enjoy reading this comic and all of its little twists and plot turns. Especially the code-naming of charachters to give their name a double meaning.

The whole thing of Archimedes = a powerful, powerful force that has no mind of its own, but can do more than any one man ever can, I love that! it’s just great!

I’m gonna take a guess and say that everything comes down to who controls the lever and fulcrum of Archimedes, and that the Clavacade are the fulcrum, where Archimedes is the lever. What could it be moving so far….

    A button that pushes itself?

Imagin that, a button that pushes itself.
