Okay so rulebooks back, maybe. Maybe more nuts than before. Does ferial know he'll be back? And I guess my theory that they'd team up is out after this revelation to his backstory eh.
Blowing up a power station. Will we find out why he did it in a later one or not? If not could you tell us Mr. Jim Sir…
Mind you, I had a feeling that power plant was bigger than it looked.
Mind you, how did Goddard know about the RC? I thought he was AWOL, message or trace.
The only way I think Goddard would even know that the RC had been there would be the data spike, and since the Cavalcade sent that, it's not logical that he could have connected it with the RC.
Goddard is still looking for the Reclaimer. In the process he uncovered this data spike and decided to trace it, which brought him to this installation. He still has no idea where the Reclaimer is, what he's doing, or if he's even still alive.
I need to read up again on his going AWOL, was it not forced upon him? I remember him jumping off Blackout avoiding a major explosion. If that is true, then who caused the explosion, fill me in boys
Also wasn't his technology obsolete in the light of Vipers?
Well, the UNSC don't know that. It would be logical to assume that he went volutarily, on his own, since involving more people other than the RC would be against Occam's Razor, which would be the most logical rule to apply since they have no other information. Ergo, they think the RC ran off.
Even if the RC's tech is obsolete in the light of the Viper's, they might still want it back. The Vipers are AWOL too, remember.
Mostly. While it's true that the PTB in the UNSC wrote him off and replaced his program with Blackhammer's, there are still a few who realize they need him and are working covertly to find him. Just because the storyline of Reclaimer is taking place in the backwaters of the universe doesn't mean that the events of the storyline aren't spilling over to some effect in the rest of the galaxy.
I think rulebook is retarded from all the data loss during the little repair cycles, he needs to start backing up his files, or else he might lose something important (like a main program file or something).
Looks like ID is having some more problems.. It's saying there's two more comments on this comic than it shows. And what does Ferial mean by "He doesn't have to worry about it any longer"?
Rulebook is crazy. This is just more crazy speak IMO, but it is possible that Jim has something up his sleeve that Rulebook refers to as his Tiara…you never know, you just have to wait
Just a thought, but in Contact Harvest, the Tiara was the seven-strand orbital elevator on Harvest operated by the AI Sif. Could Rulebook be referring to a similar structure? Or can we just chalk the tiara comment up as insane rambling? I'm still not convinced (despite Jim's insistance) that Rulebook is quite as nuts as we're being led to believe…
Hehe, IDC is pretty new. There's gonna be some bugs and glitches here and there. That's part of what being 'new' means. I know not everyone likes IDC and are still a little peeved with me for installing it here, but I really do think it's made a HUGE improvement in the level of community interaction, so I'm not terribly inclined to remove it at this point. It's been pretty wild to see the number of comments double and even triple, and I love the way it lets me get more specific with replying to comments.
So, yes, I think I know what you're thinking on this one, but it's one of those things we'll just have to disagree on.
As for the double and triple comments, well that's probably attributed to two main things:
1) I've noticed an increase in the amount of people following the comic, so there's a source of more comments.
2) Rather than replying to multiple people in a single post, like we used to do by beginning new paragraphs and prefacing them with "@(insert name of person we're replying to here)" we are now putting each reply into a new post, under a different section each time. Therefore, if I am discussing something with three people, that's going to be three posts from me rather than just one with three sections.
I do agree that it's a good thing for organised posts and such, but all this should be implemented in the forum, not the comments. All this "user interaction" should all be in the forum, come to think of it. That's what it's for, right?
It's always made more sense to me to have discussion for specific comics on the comics themselves, not on a separate forum page, hence the reason I've never just turned comments off. From an organizational perspective, I prefer to keep everything together for easy reference.
The only ones that seems to be affected by the virus were biological beings. The Calvacade were able to see it coming and fight against it. I have a feeling the UNSC AI's, being very capable, will be able to fight back against a virus.
You've got a good point. Ferial is getting impatient now and when you're a mega-evil guy bent on universal domination/destruction…well how would you get if someone was being sarcastic, especially if you're the one holding the Spartan Laser. I know AI's have their own sorta personality but this one's a bit extreme. At least the UNSC still believes in RC!

How does he have Ferial at a disadvantage? That has to be a first. Hey, if I was a super-evil-guy I'd be pretty proud of killing a few million people too. (Mental note: destroy power stations mwahahah.)
Ferial was at a disadvantage because he didn't know who the AI was. It's a turn of phrase to say "You've got me at a disadvantage" when you meet someone who already knows who you are but you don't know who they are.
Goddard is an English name, with elements of 'god' and 'hardy, brave', or so it is according to the name etymology website that I looked up. While Ferial is the super evil guy with a spartan laser, he's a typical chess master, if you'll excuse the term. He's very confident, very smart, very dangerous, however he likes control and he likes to see things go his way. He doesn't like it when something unexpected (i.e. Goddard's presence, perhaps?) happens.
Hey maybe Jim has just allowed the writing of the story to stray away from that incident. It is possible that he finds other plot lines to be more fruitful in future plot twists. That would explain his silence on replicated dude
I left it as kind of implied that he was absorbed by the group infection mind of Viper. Plues, we haven't seen the last of Viper yet. There will be a final confrontation between the Reclaimer and Viper.
I'm not sure, but I think Jim was just using him to show the Virus' influence begin and how it happend. I think he kinda just blended in with the rest of viper.
Also, I'm still not convinced all, or even some of viper is infected by something.

Sorry if i sound like a noob, I love Halo but I've only been getting episodes of Reclaimer for the past three panels or so.

Rulebok isn't dead yet!
He's just stalling ferial!
Is it? You think it has a good reason to keep Ferial busy?
Of course… the cake isn't ready yet!
The cake is a lie
I was just waiting for someone to say that. ;D
ah but the is cake and it is uumy
You didn't by any chance put this through google translator a few times?
So was I.
portal jokes….. wow
THE CAKE IS NOT A LIE
CAKé = MONGO LIEZ
Jim Sir…
Yeah, Ferial's not exactly well loved by anyone in the human community.
We might find out more about Ferial as we go along.
Mind you, I had a feeling that power plant was bigger than it looked.
Mind you, how did Goddard know about the RC? I thought he was AWOL, message or trace.

I see, so Goddard is after the RC, and that's why he's in the installation.
Exactly so. Consider this an unplanned layover for Goddard.
But why is Goddard looking for RC? The best we know is that RC was abandoned by UNSC and replaced with the Viper program, right?
Are the motives for finding RC of peace or hostile?
Probably both.
At the very least they'd want to have him back for his technology – ONI was always very protective of it's tech.
Then there's the punishment side. Being AWOL isn't a good thing in any armed force.
Yes, it was forced, a flee-for-your-life kind of deal.
He jumped from Blackout because Ferial had rigged the base to explode as part of his plan to cripple the UNSC. He only just got out in time.
So, does that mean people like Kurt and some of the other SPARTAN-IIs are still alive?
Certainly.
Sweet! I imagine Goddard talking in a British accent. Either clipped and posh, or farmer/pirate style lol
Farmer/Pirate, full southwestern accents down 'ere oo arr. Damn now I'm thinking he's got a thick accent. Proper job
I imagine a young southern type accent with a hint of irish
He just sounded english to me
Everyone sounds English to me.
The British (London) accent would be more or less accurate.
I think rulebook is retarded from all the data loss during the little repair cycles, he needs to start backing up his files, or else he might lose something important (like a main program file or something).
Rulebook's just a bit nuts. Corrupted data from reboot sequences tends to make it a bit difficult to process information properly.
He's more than a bit nuts.
Like, most nut manufacturers would give their left arms to own him.
Yeah, that was deliberate understatement.
I was going to post something a bit less SFW than left arms, but there are kids looking at this site
Much appreciated, sir.
Looks like ID is having some more problems.. It's saying there's two more comments on this comic than it shows. And what does Ferial mean by "He doesn't have to worry about it any longer"?
Yup, looks like it. I've emailed Austin about it. Hopefully it'll be fixed shortly.
the comment bug was fixed, but whats with the tiara???
Rulebook is crazy. This is just more crazy speak IMO, but it is possible that Jim has something up his sleeve that Rulebook refers to as his Tiara…you never know, you just have to wait
He could just be talking about his new body, like the top mantle of the chasy.
SPOILERS AHEAD

Or can we just chalk the tiara comment up as insane rambling? I'm still not convinced (despite Jim's insistance) that Rulebook is quite as nuts as we're being led to believe…
Chalk it up to insane rambling.
Actually, it hasn't been resolved yet.
so uh….is there some reason ID has problems EVERY DAY? is it something with RC or just ID as a whole? is there anything fans can do to halp?
We're working on it. I've changed some things about the way the site is set up, and I'm hoping the IDC guys will uncover the root cause.
I think you know what I want to say so very badly, so I'll keep my mouth shut and let you think it on your own.
Hehe, IDC is pretty new. There's gonna be some bugs and glitches here and there. That's part of what being 'new' means. Goddard, eh? Hope he's well-equipped, I have a feeling Ferial will be sending his little virus after him.
The only ones that seems to be affected by the virus were biological beings. The Calvacade were able to see it coming and fight against it. I have a feeling the UNSC AI's, being very capable, will be able to fight back against a virus.
Of course…
But then again, the Cavalcade did have some trouble, as I seem to remember was the subject of a past fan fiction in the forum.
The Cavalcade are also very advanced in comparison to UNSC AIs, and we have no idea just how powerful that virus is.
Pretty damn powerful, actually.
That was my suspicion, exact words and all.
We'll learn more about the virus later. It's a pivotal piece of the story.
i love the comic as a whole, but ferial's line in panel 3 is very un-ferial like….i just dont see him directly admitting to anything.
o and rulebook's tiara is in the wardrobe.
No, it's actually quite like Ferial. He's actually rather proud of that incident. It's the thing that set the Reclaimer after him.
what happened to your gravatar?
and thanks for the explanation!
I dunno. That was weird.
I think ID is messing with us.
Goddard's rant in frame 2 was a bit OOC, too.
You could tell Ferial was going for the "evil bad guy epic plot reveal" moment there. Then, enter Rulebook.
Love how you phrase that HSAR, Ferial has a flair for the dramatic, and I feel he has met his match in sarcasm.
It's fun inserting a little humor here and there. It's such a tense storyline, you really need to have a little comedy relief.
You could almost compare it to how Jim does an epic plot reveal, and then we're all like "what?" and "lololololololololol"*
*not literally.
You've got a good point. Ferial is getting impatient now and when you're a mega-evil guy bent on universal domination/destruction…well how would you get if someone was being sarcastic, especially if you're the one holding the Spartan Laser.

Ferial was at a disadvantage because he didn't know who the AI was. It's a turn of phrase to say "You've got me at a disadvantage" when you meet someone who already knows who you are but you don't know who they are.
Mind you, I think there's a bit of irony there, if you take it literally.
Ferial's the one holding the most powerful weapon of the human arsenal, and he's at a disadvantage to a small AI that knows his name.
Goddard is an English name, with elements of 'god' and 'hardy, brave', or so it is according to the name etymology website that I looked up. I'm also interested to see that Ferial carries an Assault Rifle over his shoulder. He's really been at the UNSC armoury recently.
I don't think Ferial's ever carried an Assault Rifle…
See Comic 130, frames #1, #5 and (not so clear) #6.
Ah, woops. Something to fix on #130 at some point, then.
Ah, oops. Something to fix on #130 at some point, then.
I got the same error as you yesterday
I did not enjoy it.
Yeah, it happens. Usually refreshing the page gets rid of it.
So whatever happened to that vipe that was pulled into the lift at construct?
I have a feeling he will come back as something important
Hey maybe Jim has just allowed the writing of the story to stray away from that incident. It is possible that he finds other plot lines to be more fruitful in future plot twists. That would explain his silence on replicated dude
I left it as kind of implied that he was absorbed by the group infection mind of Viper. Plues, we haven't seen the last of Viper yet. There will be a final confrontation between the Reclaimer and Viper.
Oooo, can't wait to see THAT happen ^^. I always do enjoy their encounters
Pluuuuues!!!!!
I'm not sure, but I think Jim was just using him to show the Virus' influence begin and how it happend. I think he kinda just blended in with the rest of viper.
Also, I'm still not convinced all, or even some of viper is infected by something.

The virus is more than just inside the Viper guy.
Most of Viper got infected with the virus. The only exceptions were the two at Standoff Outpost, and the Reclaimer polished them off pretty quickly.
"I flew"
lol, I've got to get a t-shirt with that printed on it.
I'll have to see about making one.
Wait…
If they were the only ones with Archmedies and they died, where is it now?
All of Viper (save the two exceptions mentioned above) were infected by the virus. The whereabouts of Viper is currently unknown.
Actually, I was refering to Archmedies.
Ah. We'll get back to Archimedes eventually.
Ooh arr. Werzels eh? If anyone knows them i'll give them a cookie
Actually, whenever I read anything it sounds English. Sounds just like me actually… Gotta stop reading out loud…
I think there's a thread in the forums on that
Which, things that sound English, or reading out loud?
Reading in your head.
Anyways, this cake is great, it's so delicious and moist.
Look at me, still talking when there's science to do… ;D
You're not the only one who's ever finished Portal, you know. I know that I haven't…
Look at me, still talking when there's science to do… ;D
Funny thing is, I haven't actually completed Portal.
hmm… is that the first time we have ever seen Ferial surprised by something? (Panel 1)
Not quite. Look back to when the first captive Cavalcada escaped. That definitely wasn't in his plans, but he's good at improvising.
I guess being so old he would have long ago learnt how to overcome surprises. You have really made Ferial seem invunerable.
Probably.
A chink in his armor. The greatest plans can be brought down by simple things, unexpected circumstances. Aggravating to all the master universe domination planers out there.
you know what they say about the best laid plans.
What if the viper is only like the beta version of something BIG tthe UNSC is planning. my . key is sticking again!
However, does anyone recall the Covenant AI in First Strike? I wonder if Jim will have a covenant AI ever as well…
Well, if the Covenant ever play a significant role in the storyline, then just maybe we'll see a Covenant AI.
Is that a hint at something? : )
It's a hint at a possible spin-off comic later.
oh and, i have his tiara. Arnt i pretty!
Quite!
Hey Jim, I saw this comic right at the start, back in the chapter era of the comic. Unfortunately that was right before my laptop broke. I sent it to texas then…. and still don't have it back. So I read when I could and finally got caught up, using the work laptop. It really was cool to see you get the hang of things and now your skills amaze me. All I gotta say is that you're doing an excellent job, and as a machinima director-producer-editor-writer without access to his files, offer you my help and maybe my camera man if you would like to start that machinima up!

I'll definitely keep you in mind for a machinima project when I'm ready. Right now, I'm kind of looking at it as a summer project this year, but we'll see how things go between now and then.
Jim, I spent all of last night reading this, and I must say, that you really do have a way with words. You have a new fan!
Awesome! Always love having more fans.
Well, someone is definitely out of it, but this Elite looks like he's in a bad spot to be right now. What happens if that monitor decides he doesnt need "glitches" like having a "foreign object" obstructing his "flow" on wherever this location is?
Sorry if i sound like a noob, I love Halo but I've only been getting episodes of Reclaimer for the past three panels or so.
Cake…...I thought it was soup… =]
Stay tuned for tomorrow's comic, then. Rulebook's gonna step out just a bit.
Actually, the cake is chocolate, and as we all know, chocolate always lies.
You know, every time I read this- I just get more and more impressed with the intense nature and developed levels of story going on. Very nice job. I'm going to have to work on my own methods of comic style…
I consider that a happy accident. I just like to introduce variety into the storyline and then figure out how to make it all fit into the Reclaimerverse. So far, that method has worked out well for me.
