blip No more goddard! Or did he just shut him for a while? And Ferial is talking crazier than Rulebook. In fact Rulebook was a lot less cryptic than usual, and I didn't understand Ferial. Was this another hint hidden in the text thing?
I can't either, did you see the review I typed up? I need to send you the link to the version of it that I included some tips and tricks. Oh and so this whole subthread isn't completely off-topic, I want to know exactly what Ferial did to Goddard… I'm a technonerd like that.
we all want to know what Ferial did,
also you jim, will really want march 3 to come soon, because the collectors edition has the mythic map pack free with it! (at least here in UK, not so sure about america)
after chacking bungie.net america gets it without collectors edition, here in england u need the collectors edition
Actually, you do have to get the Limited Edition of Halo Wars in order to get the Mythic maps before everyone in the US. I expect they'll be available on the Marketplace within a couple of weeks.
No, no – that was phrased badly. I was trying to say that here in the US – like everywhere else in the world where Halo Wars is being released – you have to buy the Limited Edition in order to get the Mythic maps before they're released on the Marketplace. In fact, I think Britain, Europe, Japan (?) will get Halo Wars on Feb. 28, so all those places will have the Mythic maps a couple of days before we do here in the States.
is that how it works? I thought that it would be an install from the disk. If it's coming off the marketplace I'm just going to have Holychild by the game and I'll stick in my profile on his xbox when he downloads the maps so that I can do it on my console when i get home…
I wonder if Ferial got Goddard with like a computer virus or something. Cause I never saw anything shoot… and Goddard wasn't scared or anything, so maybe Ferial uploaded like a virus and shut him down nearly instantly. And where did you get the demo? Do you know if it's only on Xbox or will it be released on PC?
The demo is available on the Xbox Live Marketplace as of yesterday. It will not be available on the PC, as there are plans to release a PC version of the game.
Actually, it will NOT be coming to the PC. It is an Xbox 360 exclusive title, and they've clearly stated that it wouldn't work as a PC port for the same issues you have when porting a PC RTS onto a console, the controls just wouldn't work.
Darn – that was a typo on my part. I meant to write "there are NO plans to release a PC version." Brain got moving faster than my fingers could keep up.
but what about LOTR BFME 2 …. did they totally remake the game for xbox?...oh btw hi guys good comic i've just read the whole damn thing..took me 2 and a half hours…you've just got youself another avid reader jim.
as for Goddard, Ferial could have forced him to use up all his processor space, taking him out of the game ( this also means he can come back into the game, thus why I like it).
pre flood discovery & post flood discovery forerunners, pre- they were all nice; like hippies (possibly) post- they would be mainly preparing for war; like the military this would be reflected in their speech
Not really. It just means I don't want to tip my hand in either direction right now. I do this quite often – remain mum on speculations and theories to keep from biasing my readership and to keep my secrets close until I'm ready to unveil them.
yay, halo wars demo, on XBL? downloadable now or just from a gaming magazine?
And are the halo 3 mythic maps only available in the USA via Halo Wars limited edition or could Halo Wars limited edition have the maps in other countries (please let it be multi-national (i think that's the word))
I've missed something within both Ferial's and Rulebook's speech, oh noes D:
ferial may have little Ferial-probes to send out which are AIs, that is what the master chief program seemed to be, but as the author it is your call Jim.
Maybe Ferial died and his brain was turned into AI circuts. Thats how the UNSC make "smart" AIs.
PS Cortana was made form a clone of Dr. Haisley's brain incase you haven't read the books… wait if you haven't read the books then you won't know who Dr.H is, ugh.
Downloadable now from XBLM. And all the maps will be ultimately available everywhere by the time ODST drops in the fall, but the Mythic maps will be available when Halo Wars hits store shelves in a few weeks.
Frankly, I'd be a little worried if anyone's actually able to piece together the clues from this one. Either that individual would be insane – or able to think enough like me to figure it out. Both are frightening conclusions.
But would the game Halo Wars limited edition have the mythic maps in the southern hemisphere?
And i know they'll be available with ODST, but maybe i'll just wait for Mythic to hit XBLM?
Oh, the irony….
Soup? Key's? and Caves? hmmmmm….
The soup is some sort of puzzle or wall that provides a puzzle or distraction to find the key which leads to the cave…. a cave… a. .cave.
Avalanche…. no.
Snowbound… no.
what then….
Oh and Jim, great news, i re-read a month or so old gaming magazine, and apparently in one of Bungie's acceptance videos, they admitted that a full level editor will be coming our way by the end of this year or next
I wonder what the other maps in the ODST game will be like, any one know what they're based on (excluding Orbital, Sandbox (yay), and the other one)
I'm excited
Sandbox will be amachinima/Mpa makers/Comic makers dream oh heaven
and tunnels (tunnels )
the new maps:
Heretic, it sounds like its based on the halo 2 level
Asembelly, a scarab factory
Orbital, the clue is in the name
or are the last 2 in the baasic mythic pack, ah well
you can learn about them some more.
Still confusingly excellent Jim, but is Goddard alive is the (other) question we all want answered

Ferial must be a phyc too, He deduced the location from Rulebook's ramblings.
Are you making up for the lack of crazy comments realier?
And he dispached those two pretty quickly, I expected more from them.
Then again, the story isn't necessarly over, is it Jim.
Also, is't me, or is the quality a little on the bad side?
Oh, and of course, wondrful comic.
I reviewed Rulebook's rantings again and it would seem he's saying Eternal Refuge it in pieces and we shouldn't go… crazy? Jim are you talking to us in this one? Or has the real world influenced the piece more than you would hope? Or am I reading to much into it?
Am I asking too many questions?
To be honest, I'm not terribly happy with either Wednesday's or today's comic. Chalk it up to the fact that I've been in severe pain since Monday, and you wouldn't believe just how hard it is to think when every movement hurts.
Well to me it seems the most information gotten was from "The missing part is always missing" and "Crack down and break the broken. Fix the whole, toss the monkey a banana". Where do things that get lost in this certain thing USUALLY stay forever? Slipspace I'm guessing and the other line is how to get him from it I assume.
yeah if reclaimer gets it he will be here for rulebook, and will then be chasing Ferial all around the soup, what is it with soup anyway, where you eating it at the time of writing the first rulebook inclusive edition or something?
toss the monkey a banana, toss a sinking sailor a rope, lead the sailor to safety, lead the banana to a trap
one is tedious, one is genuine
(can you guess which two characters i referred to?)
(*see what i did there Jim, i used your cleverness to create an alternative, yay mwa *)
"Dig into the Ephemeral sphere"
Jim, are you perhaps digging yourself a grave here?
So far as I've heard (and read), the Mythic maps will be available with the Limited Edition no matter where it's released. At the very least, I haven't heard anything that says they won't be, and I've tried to keep my ear to the ground on the topic as much as possible.
I've seen all those videos and Bungie never actually says that. In fact, Luke put down that rumor in a Bungie Weekly Update a little while back.
But I agree – I'm excited about the new maps and can't wait to use them in Reclaimer. Such plans I have….
Personally, I'm a bit disappointed with Sandbox, though. It feels like Sandtrap without the ruins and with some bits of base stuck in there. Oh, and a pretty wierd sunset-style red-orange filter.
Orbital looks the business though. Makes up for everything. And I hope there's a way to exit Assembly – that would be awesome.
I reserving my opinion on Sandbox until I've had a chance to play around on it a bit. It looks kind of underwhelming to me at the moment, bit I suspect that it will actually pretty awesome.
I try to imagine Ferial with an evil laugh and all I get is "Wort, wort, wort!" I blame it on too much Halo, personally, then again you can never have too much Halo, right? watches at everyone else edges away
I have chronic back pain, caused by degenerative disk disease. It basically means that half of the disks in my spine look like they belong to someone about 40 years older than me. I've already had one surgery, thanks to one of the disks herniating. Some days (and weeks) are better than others. This has definitely been one of the rougher ones for me since my surgery 18 months ago.
...toss the monkey a banana
oooooh, ruthelessly creative, now we're talking, quite a conundrum >:)
You can lead the horse to water…
but you can't make it drink.
You can get a lions attention,
but you can't arouse it's taste-buds
If fish could fly,
do you think they would yank the rope?
If a cat could bark,
do you think the world would change?
If a man was not overpowered by lust and greed,
Would he follow the rainbow?......
..............................
.....If i were a spirit….
....Would i live to tell the tale?
See if you can crack that conundrum >:)
and post your answer, the closest or correct person wins
My theory is that the Calvacada create Eternal Refuge when they fully merge. Ferial figured it out from what Rulebook said, and now he may actually help RC in indirect ways. We'll see.
Miriax
If we're making a machinima, Ferial must have that smart, intelligent, business man voice, but yet chaotic and sinful at the same time
I can imagine it now
A re-enactment of the comics
I was researching an Idea I had, found #78 Code Pinnacle; which make's a reference to Eternal Refuge, but requires a key, which (in hind sight and the fact that Guardian is the background) naturally leads to RB, which leads me to believe the code is Ferial's doing.
Then I came across #54 Hostile [Carrier Signal] (which I believe is the first reference to ER), which has an AI using a slip space com array to move (hmm, where else have I heard this), which if my suspicions are correct and this is Portent "speaking" then that would mean the Cavalcade are (or have) the key to ER.
Which if they are (or have) the key, then RB's ramblings about "the missing part is always missing" and "crack down and break the broken, fix the whole…", would make some sense, the missing part = Portent, or possibly the other member, as the Reclaimer has four, freed one from Ferial, and is attempting to retrieve Portent, and if you consider "the broken" an object, breaking the broken would be fixing it (like breaking a winning streak), and fix the whole is fairly clear if applied to the Cavalcade.
I actually haven't found the comic I was looking for, well back to searching…
P.S. sorry Jim (and everyone else) I just realized I've been spelling the Cavalcade wrong. oops.
Viper I previously refered to Archimedes as containing Forerunner slip space protocols, thus his knowing of the Todash gate, but I don't know how it fits with the Virus; I was mainly focusing on ER.
Also, I would like to know which thoughts specifically you think are off track so I can refine them.

Hey the simplest plans often thwart the smartest people. Rulebook and Goddard are expecting an intricate attack, for Ferial to walk away simply would have Rulebook potentially scrambling to check on Eternal Refuge.
i wonder why rulebook said pardner to Ferial…
could they have worked together in the past or something?
it may just be a random "rulebook gibberish" phrase, but it may be a lot more important…
I don't feel so bad since you linked it. =P It's my first attempt at a publicized review, so I'm glad it's being so well received.
EDIT: If you take a look at the review, since it's my first attempt, I would love it if you left a comment with some feedback, even if it's just a "nice review". I know, I'm shamelessly plugging myself here, but I do like to improve via feedback.
Do you think that It will be possible for multiple accounts to benefit from the maps off one disc? I'm more than willing to pay. In fact, if I do somehow get the maps for free in the next month, I will likely pay for them later on. I like supporting Bungie, but I'm not entire convinced (despite the amazing cutscenes in the demo) that I want to spend a$80 for a game… (Btw, you can expect my comic tomorrow around 4:30, I'm running a bit late. )
I really don't know how that will work. I suspect that it'll probably be possible to install the maps on more than one machine from the game disc, but I don't know for sure.
I've played the Halo Wars demo, and I can say for certain that it's pretty friggin' sweet.
No problem. I was staring to wonder, but late's better than never.

...but, I like Rulebook. :
oh wait I know where it is too…
...the soup.
blip No more goddard! Or did he just shut him for a while? And Ferial is talking crazier than Rulebook. In fact Rulebook was a lot less cryptic than usual, and I didn't understand Ferial. Was this another hint hidden in the text thing?
Most intriguing… I would spend more time, normally, trying to decipher Rulebook's ramblings, but I'm basking in the glory of the Halo Wars demo atm.
It's a great demo! I can't wait for March 3.
I can't either, did you see the review I typed up? I need to send you the link to the version of it that I included some tips and tricks. Oh and so this whole subthread isn't completely off-topic, I want to know exactly what Ferial did to Goddard… I'm a technonerd like that.
That, my friend, is something that is likely to be examined more closely in an official short fiction.
As exciting as it is that it will be explored later, that doesn't answer my question though, did you see the review I typed up? =P
I did, indeed.
Very well written, and I agree 100%.
Where exactly is the review?
This is it. It's a nice write-up.
The Halo Wars forum on xbox360achievements.org. I would post a link, but I think I've already advertised it more than I probably should. =P
Heh, oops – cat's already out of the bag.

thanks for explaining, my mind was turning into cheese
or do you mean the limited edition everywhere?
curse your psychiatery, applying it in your ordinary comments as well as the comic
is that how it works? I thought that it would be an install from the disk. If it's coming off the marketplace I'm just going to have Holychild by the game and I'll stick in my profile on his xbox when he downloads the maps so that I can do it on my console when i get home…
The maps will be available from Halo Wars LE FIRST – then from the Marketplace some time later.

I'd perfer that senarieo as well.
I have it on Xbox, I don't expect to see it on pc. very cool
I have a feeling that this is not the last we will see Goddard
Lol. Ferial speaks 5 languages, old forerunner, new age forerunner, nerd, english and Rulebook Gibberish. Koolness, i heart this 1.
Since when was there a old and new forerunner?
its a bit like old english, the queens english, and then local english
pre flood discovery & post flood discovery forerunners, pre- they were all nice; like hippies (possibly) post- they would be mainly preparing for war; like the military this would be reflected in their speech
Goddard didn't have to be shut down, but perhaps the speakers were?
The missing part is always missing.
Nothing is Missing from Refuge, it's meant to look it. Or it was never meant to have a cavalcade inside.
aq great theory, i just wish Jim would speak about it, his silence to this comment is suggestive
PS who likes the picture?
Not really. It just means I don't want to tip my hand in either direction right now. I do this quite often – remain mum on speculations and theories to keep from biasing my readership and to keep my secrets close until I'm ready to unveil them.
I like to watch you guys stew in your own juices.
We've noticed…
...a lot…
... far too often…
I like stew
I'm guessing he got too entrenched in Ferial's puzzle.
I am so beyond lost at this point…
.In this case, that's a good thing – for me.
Probably 90% of readers are. Those that aren't are bordering…

Oh we know, we've beaten that subject into the ground, a little while ago.
I'd say a bit more than a while ago – I find it's easier to assume the people have read the books, nowaday. It avoids situations like these…
The secret's out!
the question is, where is the SOUP?
That is, indeed, a good question.
In the kitchen, duh.

If I could be so bold as to say they're the same thing said twice? >:D
Hehe, they may well be.
ok, the scary thing is this might be the first one in this setting that i have actually understood.
What is it that you think you understood?
eternal refuge is plit into numerouse pieces and is some where that it cannot normally be retrieved, probably slipspace.
in other words part or all of it but in parts, is in slipspace
i think that the AI's that reclaimer has with him are trying to get him to reclaim EF from slipspace, or maybe a part of it
Hmmm. I like your thinking. It's an interesting concept, at the very least – even if it turns out to be wrong…
I'm fairly confident it is
But would the game Halo Wars limited edition have the mythic maps in the southern hemisphere?

Nah, I agree with you.
All things must be in balance.

keep your ears open, for you never know what you can catch.
Let go of the toads man.
I had to laugh at that. "Wort"
O_O, I know it's not easy, but I didn't know writing could kill you.

Um, are you going to be okay?
I'll live. I've been living with this for several years now. It's rarely fun, but it's not like it's life-threatening or anything.
That's good news. It will be a dark day indeed, when your witty humor and amazing stories cease to brighten our day.
Always nice to know I'd be missed.

We'd have to get someone over to your place to retrieve the Reclaimer logo to put on your gravestone… :O
That's a grim prospect. Maybe we should make it now…
Never mind, that's even more morbid.
Heh, I thought of this:
Jim wakes up in the night and looks out the window –
Outside there's a flash of lights and then the WETA warthog crashes down his driveway, with three guys in ODST armour inside.
We rush in and steal his computer, cake, and soup. Also the cotage cheese.
Lol.
Always. You have no idea how many people would suffer withdrawal symptoms of you stopped.
could it be that Eternal Refuge is no longer out of reach?
It's… complicated.
It always is.

And here I thought that the Soup was on E!, man was I wrong. The condensed soup is on Yahoo though.
From apocolypse comes harmony,
The misunderstod love of war,
The enemys you can't live without,
The nuke replaced with a hug…
...look deeper don't just shoot at the surface.
Hush the husless
kill the deathless
With my shotgun.
I shot the Albatross
...toss the monkey a banana
oooooh, ruthelessly creative, now we're talking, quite a conundrum >:)
You can lead the horse to water…
but you can't make it drink.
You can get a lions attention,
but you can't arouse it's taste-buds
If fish could fly,
do you think they would yank the rope?
If a cat could bark,
do you think the world would change?
If a man was not overpowered by lust and greed,
Would he follow the rainbow?......
..............................
.....If i were a spirit….
....Would i live to tell the tale?
See if you can crack that conundrum >:)
and post your answer, the closest or correct person wins
MY HEAD HURTS!!!!
My theory is that the Calvacada create Eternal Refuge when they fully merge. Ferial figured it out from what Rulebook said, and now he may actually help RC in indirect ways. We'll see.
Miriax
Hmm… another good idea…
mmm… Calvacade soup
If we're making a machinima, Ferial must have that smart, intelligent, business man voice, but yet chaotic and sinful at the same time
I can imagine it now
A re-enactment of the comics
I imagined Arbiter's voice…worked well for me so far :O
Any official Reclaimer machinima I sanction will be much more than just a re-enactment of the comics. They will be supplemental storylines.
drools
Obviously the man would because he wants to TASTE the rainbow, no?
BELIEVE IN THE RAINBOW OR IT SHALL MAKE YOU FALL TO YOUR DOOM!
but what of the pot of gold?
Ain't no rainbows here, son. ;-P
P.S. sorry Jim (and everyone else) I just realized I've been spelling the Cavalcade wrong. oops.
Some good thoughts there, but I think theres a few that are off-track…
What do you think of Archimedes?
Viper I previously refered to Archimedes as containing Forerunner slip space protocols, thus his knowing of the Todash gate, but I don't know how it fits with the Virus; I was mainly focusing on ER.
Also, I would like to know which thoughts specifically you think are off track so I can refine them.

I don't know if anybody has mentioned this, but it seems like Ferial is using some classic reverse psychology to get Rulebook to reveal what he knows
Hmm.. he's more advanced than that. I'm thinking reverse-reverse-reverse psychology ;D
Hey the simplest plans often thwart the smartest people. Rulebook and Goddard are expecting an intricate attack, for Ferial to walk away simply would have Rulebook potentially scrambling to check on Eternal Refuge.
well, just rulebook, Goddard seems dead
Read today comic for the answer
Is it just me or is Rulebook becoming more… lucid?
well it is true, but it still isn't helpful till we find the "soup" (see my above comment)
I'm thinking of the primordial soup… see wikipedia for a definition.
so the sort of soup that starts all life, i like the logic there
i wonder why rulebook said pardner to Ferial…
could they have worked together in the past or something?
it may just be a random "rulebook gibberish" phrase, but it may be a lot more important…
It's a puzzler, indeed… I think most things Rulebook says have hidden meanings.

It was channeling a little John Wayne there.
does John Wayne have the soup? turning the comic to a western would be quite a twist
yay for john wayne! (he was the cowboy film guy wasn't he?)
Interesting. It seems Ferial continues to be one step ahead. He's really starting to annoy me. Heh.
oh yes of course dear Jim, but there will crossovers in the timeline of events ;D
Nice job on the review.
And Rock is Better.
Hey Jim, do you mind if I ask when your birthday is? I'd like to remember to wish you a happy one when it rolls around this year…
August 5.

Somebody's been doing some math. That's… a little creepy.
No, Jim I'm not a stalker, I just have a really good memory and a knack for dates and numbers (and you haven't exactly tried to hide it).
Fair point.

Do you think that It will be possible for multiple accounts to benefit from the maps off one disc? I'm more than willing to pay. In fact, if I do somehow get the maps for free in the next month, I will likely pay for them later on. I like supporting Bungie, but I'm not entire convinced (despite the amazing cutscenes in the demo) that I want to spend a$80 for a game… (Btw, you can expect my comic tomorrow around 4:30, I'm running a bit late.
)
