Hahah! You must've had fun writing this. Looks like Ferial is in some trouble with this one!

      February 9, 2009 at 2:22 pm | #

I did have fun with it. This one was actually kind of difficult to write because I wrote myself into a corner with my crappy writing last week. So I had to figure out how to get myself out of it. This one went through about four major revisions before I was finally happy with it.

D: Oh wow. Reulard is a badass, or at least he sounds like one. If he can keep Ferial trapped then he can have the title.

Yep, it sounds like Reulard is gonna turn Ferials own virus on him :) That'll be fun to watch.

So Goddard and Rulebook died and in their place rose a fusion of two of them. Oh wait I get the name now! Reul from Rulebook and ard from Goddard. That was good Jim. Anyway, another good comic and it looks like Ferial is gonna be in a whole lot of trouble. Reulard seems to know what he's doing and when he said "the Forerunners prepared for this eventuality" it seems like they've been preparing for as long as Ferial has :) When I first read the comic, I thought Rulebook seemed a little bit too lucid. But both are dead in a way, but their cores are now host to Reulard? Right? And where did thia AI come from? Did it just form from the two dead AI's personalities or come from somewhere else? So many question, no answers at all!

    • Jim (TTL Demag0gue)
      February 9, 2009 at 2:36 pm | #

It's a fusion of the two personalities. I literally blended the colors of Rulebook and Goddard's dialogue to create the new color for Reulard. :)

        February 10, 2009 at 7:46 am | #

Really? I didn't notice the mix in the font, I just noticed it was different. So you've mixed the names to make a new name and mixed the fonts to distinguish Reulard from the other two? I guess the Goddard personality is most dominant, because he's incredibly lucid and "sarcastic" isn't the word I was looking for but I guess it'll have to do.

Who has the most strength? Ferial is old and physically strong (??) but Reulard has the advantage being able to control a lot of that station (right?). That was just random guessing by the way. :)

          • Jim (TTL Demag0gue)
            February 10, 2009 at 1:35 pm | #

Ferial has strength on a lot of dimensions, most of which won't be fully seen 'til much later. Reulard rules that installation with an iron… fist. In that place, Reulard is God.

      • Jim (TTL Demag0gue)
        February 9, 2009 at 2:37 pm | #

Reulard's abilities are limited. It's programming only allows it to do the minimum necessary to protect Eternal Refuge. In this case, Ferial's life is in no danger…

oh… why couldn't Ruelard destroy 1/3rd of the "holy triuminvate" of Ferial
but of course, if he did then Ferial's Virus would be absorbed into the system, and destroy Ruelard!!!

Define "life", I figure you at least mean he'll still be breathing, but if the "viral code" is what I think it is (Program: Dreamstate), Ferial won't be doing much living.

BTW, AWESOME comic, why do the good ones always have to seem short, :@

Ferial is way to big for a little monitor to take down no matter what he's capable of. Especially since you've said that Reulard can only do a bare minimun to keep Refuge safe.

            February 10, 2009 at 1:47 pm | #

"Take whatever you think you know… and cram it."

I love that line :D It sounds so… human! You can really hear the remnants of Goddard in Reulards speech paterns.

Question for everybody – how did you "hear" ferial speak his last line? Smug and confident, or slightly shaken and doubtfull?

Yeah I thought shaky, like y-y-y-you can't d-d-do that! You don't have the the the power! Like a sorta scared stutter. But knowing Jim (I don't really :) ), and judging by Reulards response, I'd say it would be smug and confident. And Ferial scared? Puhlease. Not gonna happen:)

Super – as usual. But I did have a bit of trouble reading Reulards text – the black outlined white text was kinda hard to read, even on a 22" widescreen. Great writing though!

    • Jim (TTL Demag0gue)
      February 9, 2009 at 2:45 pm | #

I'm not sure I understand – Reulard's text is more of a bluish-purple with a darker purple border. There's no white text outline in black anywhere on the page…

I think I've found my new favorite character… and Reulard's "eventuality" line reminds me very much of Vigil from Mass Effect. I'm telling ya, Jim, you would LOVE that game's story if you gave it a chance. Oh and in the second-to-last panel, Why are his words suddenly surrounded with quotes? The text box also changed to a square shape…

I think they're in quotes because there's no character on screen… that's the only explanation I could come up with

    • Jim (TTL Demag0gue)
      February 9, 2009 at 2:40 pm | #

I'm learning a few new things about lettering for comics. The square dialogue balloon is for dialogue that takes place where the character is not on-screen. The quotes are to indicate that it's spoken dialogue, as opposed to voiceover narrative.

don't answer, it was never, unless the machine suddenly reveals you in it, now that would be a good twist…

No, not all is spoken. See #133 for an example. There's some narrative from the Reclaimer in the dialogue boxes, but it's not spoken. It's merely the reader having the advantage of being privy to some of the Reclaimer's thoughts. It's removed from the direct flow of the events taking place at that time. He's neither mumbling to himself nor talking to anyone else. Hence, it's considered voiceover rather than dialogue and gets a little special treatment.

Dang, I wasn't specific enough. I ment this Specific comic.
Although, I kinda realized since then that it makes more sense if you apply the rule to each pannel separately.

"With your powers combined, I am…CAPTAIN REULARD!"

Anyone who didn't live through Captain Planet won't get it XD. But, I love this new development. As a note, Reulard just sounds hard to say; like one of those words that has a funny feeling as it trips off the tongue. Still funny, though. I love how this only came as a result of Ferial's hubris. He was so smug when he took down Goddard. Ah! Another pop culture reference:

"If you strike me down, I shall become more powerful than you can possibly imagine."

Yes, I'm such a geek , and yes, I amuse myself too easily.

I used to say like Rule and ard, the splits of Rulebook and Goddard. In my head it would have been spelled like Ruleard :) Oh well

That was the way I'd originally intended to spell it, but I had a typo as I was working on it and decided to keep it. :)

well even if Einstein is wrong; Newton has been proven wrong, experiments have shown results that match Einstein's predictions and disproved Newton; so if Einstein is wrong we have no major theory for gravity.

      February 11, 2009 at 9:47 pm | #

Einstein did A LOT of work about gravity, and space-time; the previously accepted theory of gravity was Newton's (which for stuff like launching satellites or bombing the enemy is all you need).

Tesla had a theory of gravity?!?!?

        February 12, 2009 at 1:29 am | #

Tesla had a theory for everything… His gravity theory is called the Dynamic Theory of Gravity, you can look it up on wikipedia and others, the problem is he only mentioned it in one speech and two interviews and all of his papers and research were taken by the government so no one can explain it right, and no one will despite the fact that he made it very clear he intended to…
