Hmmm, a "paycheck" like device, interesting now i see how their planning has gone so smoothly

      April 20, 2009 at 12:43 pm | #

Just read the Wikipedia article on the film. Figures that it'd be a PKD story. I'm gonna have to check both of those out. And yes, the Stream does appear to be very like the Paycheck device, though I suspect the actual functionality is a bit different.

Paycheck was the movie that came to mind when I read this too. Its actually interesting to know that Ferial might not be the insightful genius everyone thinks he is. Sure, he probably is a tactical genius, but his plans only seem so insightful because he can see the future. If his plan would have failed, he can just alter it to work out.

          April 20, 2009 at 11:02 pm | #

It's more a case of my knowing how the Stream works but I don't really know anything about the Paycheck device. At the very least, it sounds like the outcome is relatively similar.

probably, Since paycheck was a visual type of device it was based on the laws of light bending around a sphere and you can't really do that across space. They could just use a super computer that you could input the amount of variances by a persons actions which would be astronomical, and then supply your own data which you could technically get very close estimations about your plans. Which would give Feral the upperhand in most fights but yet there is still enough room for variance to occur. and since he split himself up he can have one watching this "Data Stream" and telling the other two what to do and where to go. Which would have helped him tremendously. sorry for the long comment

"besides, its such a small ripple" that has that famous last words feel to it, something truly epic is going to happen soon i think

It's a small ripple – at the moment. Like anything surrounding the Reclaimer, the ripple has the potential to grow exponentially.

Jim, did you make that ripple by using the other ferial under active camo? Thats what it kind of looks like to me, upon further studying

    just a quick check

apostate is converging on the unrest,

from the previous comic one is led to believe the unrest is the virus, but this one makes it seem like the apostate is the virus and the unrest is the cavalcade…

is this something you can enlighten me on jim?

    speculation:
hehe, what if the ripple is where the virus has allready been through and 'converged' with RC's problematic cavalcada??

    • Jim Stitzel
      April 20, 2009 at 12:47 pm | #

The Unrest is the virus. More than that I won't say at this juncture.

        April 20, 2009 at 1:27 pm | #

        Oh.. I think i might have it…

What if Ferial is using the Unrest (the virus) and reclaimer (hes bringing the cavalcade back together) to draw something else, more powerful out? (this being the Apostate….)

Unless I am mistaken, the virus did try to converge with Reclaimer in a previous comic, when Reclaimer was traversing the Last Resort multiplayer map. The Cavalcade in his suit stopped the virus before it realised that the Cavalcade were there.

After all this virus speculation however, it is no doubt going to have nothing to do with the virus =P

    • Jim Stitzel
      April 20, 2009 at 12:51 pm | #

You're not wrong. The virus did try once to hack the Cavalcade and the Reclaimer's systems.

Why would you be curious? You could make it however you want it too!! :p But with this dreamstate, maybe the virus could sort of beat RC and the Calvacada are trying to beat it back but RC is like well in a dream? I'll just go off and look like more of an idiot over here, sorry Jim…

Clearly they are talking of ICE CREAM and not ripple of any other sort…right? ...right…? please say yes someone :D
In other, more serious sense, this ISN'T EVEN REMOTELY to do with space-time continuum manipulation…which I thought it may have been. Which is why I shan't be allowed to read this at 1:00 AM…when I just wake up…

This sort of blows the theory that the Apostate is Archimedes out of the water. Or maybe not. But it seems the Ferial are either planning on killing one of their own or a calvacada member. This convergence must be a meeting between the virus, (Unrest?), Apostate (no idea, maybe Archimedes) and the Calvacda (maybe that's Apostate as in the calvacada collective) and RC. I wonder how that will turn out :) And who's their dupe?

    • Jim Stitzel
      April 20, 2009 at 12:52 pm | #

The dupe is the Reclaimer. Ferial has manipulated him at every turn.

Seems to me that Ferial has avoided confronting RC merely for the sake of making him a mule. I also read that the calvacada are less friendly to each other than originally assumed, that they were more dealing with each other to achieve a broader goal…?

There goes my “Dr. Emit Brown making a cameo at theclimax asking RC if ‘This is the future’ only to learn that he is still in present” theory. It was perfect too. Oh, meanwhile McFly would accept a banchee race after being called chicken by one of the Ferials only get blown up by a missle from the machine. Dr. Brown tries to go to the past to save Marty but fortunatly only succedes in renaming Melancholy properly. Also, as a side effect, RC discovered a cd in the Dilorian and ended up becoming adicted to ‘Handlebars’ by Flobots and chants it throughout the rest of the series.

Vortigaunts were originally going to be that theory but it was dismissed because they were all busy at the time waiting for Cecil and Gordon to arrive with some larval extract.

well if apostate is true to its name… Im going to go with hmmm logically Ferial would fit that description…

apostate implies something thats broken away from its religion and is opposed to it from my understanding? So otherwise it would be like a rogue AI or being.

    hmmm

  13. Jammy

    April 20, 2009 at 3:11 pm | #

Well the definition of apostate is "One who has abandoned one's religious faith, a political party, one's principles, or a cause." So who has done that? Viper? And do we know what Archimedes actually is yet (apart from a skull)?

    • Jim Stitzel
      April 20, 2009 at 3:18 pm | #

Well, Archimedes is actually a chip that was implanted in the skull containing the program of Archimedes proper. Now it's been inserted into key systems where it currently lies dormant. The virus piggybacked on Archimedes and is the rogue element now running rampant through various systems.

Well… looking at these guys, who hasn't abandoned something? Ferial abandoned his race, the RC abandoned the UNSC and the Cavalcade abandoned (or were abandoned by) the Forerunners.

No info on Archimedes yet, so I can't tell if it's him.

Nope, I definitely meant 'here'. They can't go back in time to change something they've done, so their actions must be modified from here forward based on their new calculations.

I've been very pleased all along with the Reclaimer fan-base. I've worked hard to weed out the chaff that periodically springs up. :)

    one more question,

is there 2 virus's or are they one and the same. Because there appears to be a computer one and a organic one. Also the one who infected the viper in the lift (map was construct?) was that the virus as well?

For some reason, my custom css was doing somthing to intense debate. It made it impossible to use any site with intense debate on it, for some reason.

I didn’t know it was possible for css to skrew stuff like intense debate up but I had to keep trying untill my post got submited. The funny thing is, my css only changed text size and link/link.hover. The other funny thing is that it started just recently.

          • Jim Stitzel
            April 22, 2009 at 12:34 am | #

Well, the IntenseDebate plugin for WordPress did just get updated recently, hence the reason why it was suddenly conflicting with another plugin I used and causing problems for IE7 users. I don't know what custom CSS you would have been using, but it's possible, I suppose, that it could have run into issues with some of the layout changes they made.

You know, "ripple" doesn't have to be metaphorical… what if he was talking about ripples in Slipspace? We know that the Cavalcade are strongly tied to Slipspace, and it seems that all the other characters have at some point been involved with Slipspace transportation/manipulation.

If I am not mistaken without looking back, was not the calvacada alone when this happened? I was under the impression that one calvacada could repel virus, but the combined weight of the calvacade would be exponentially a greater force to reckon with.
