I don't know how long it will last. I don't have any set number. I'm fairly confident that Reclaimer will not run indefinitely, but by the same token, I'm not entirely sure where I'll end the series. For now, I'm just enjoying the process of storytelling.
It's just like a series of really good books. You read the first and get really stuck in, you read all the rest and when you get to the end…you've read the last of the story and you realise all your favourite characters have no further adventures…that's why webcomics are so good I guess. They go on however long you want them to, not having to spend entire days on writing pages and pages like in a book where you like it at the start then you wish it was over. This is slightly less time consuming, and in my opinion, a much nicer and more fun way to 'work'.
This old fried could be someone from when he was still completely with the UNSC, maybe a Spartan or even another Reclaimer (I can't remember if he was the only one to be put into the Reclaimer project?)
But it could be Ferial, or someone else we've seen before…
I'm fairly sure this is a new character, because we haven't seen much into RC's past (hey Jim, make it Henderson from my machinima :p) and this is on Orbital, we haven't been there yet except as a monologue for that Viper member. And I definitely think that RC has been showing the Calvacada up a lot in the last few comic. Nice work Jim!
Heh, since I wrote the script in Celtx, the text there was all lower-case. It only became uppercase when copy-pasting it to the comic in the Mainframe font, thus creating a bit of an optical illusion. Sadly, I'm not terribly inclined to change it at this point. It is kinda funny, though.
My guess is that it's the AI he worked with when he was a Spartan. this old friend could be to Reclaimer what Cortana is to the Master Chief. Just a thought.
Posting this as a separate comment because it's a totally separate topic.
I love how much more drive and depth you've given to the Reclaimer in the past few comics. Before he just seemed like the sterotypical brutish super-soldier that does what he's told and just fights really well. Now, we see more of the intellect behind the visor, and it makes him a much deeper character. Keep up the good work!
Thanks! I've been trying to reveal some of the other sides of the Reclaimer. He's much more than just a muscle-bound soldier with special abilities. There's a mind in there, and a brilliant one at that. I'm glad that side of him is finally finding expression.
That's the one thing I didn't like about the Halo games' stories. Unlike the books, they never really delved into the Chief's intellect, just his raw combat ability.
Ever since the first couple of comics I liked Reclaimers narration, and the "inner reclaimer" is very cool, but in an earlier comic didn't he (Reclaimer) talk about how he was being rubbed off on by the calvacade intelect, and they were getting some of his sarcastic traits? My question is is it really Reclaimer who has the natural intellect, or are the cavalcade just rubbing off?
Both.
As a spartan he would be far smarter then a normal human, in fact a spartan's brain "runs" at a faster speed then a normal human.
Add to that the calvacade forcing him to think more about things he is smart and getting smarter.
So… he'd feel right at home? I mean, he already talks to the voices in his head, I'm pretty sure he'd be able to communicate with the Superintendent just as well!
Dear god. Kidding right? Great stuff, but as with the the computer on Snowbound that revealed the truth behind Ferial, the exact image in the last pane of this Reclaimer is identical to a shot from the upcoming ep. of CT. Ahahahahahaha Maybe I'll just start selling t-shirts
Really? Guess that means more of Disk…
I wonder what the UNSC stores in the basements of massive sky tethers…It's unlikely an AI would be stored, and putting more minds besides calvalcade into reclaimer would make all our minds hurt…and this is post-war, so all spartans are either tied up somewhere or dead…so I'd have to guess it's either a Reclaimer program buddy, or some kind of big piece of machinery he just refers to as his "friend".
I've really become a fan of the comic medium through this project. Prior to Reclaimer, all my writings had been short stories and flash fiction. There's just something about the comic format, though, that really engages me.
If RC is speaking aloud in the last panel (and I assume he is), don't his lines in the boxes need quotes around them?
I would think so. I guess he is off-screen, so it kinda works, though.
That's when Jim would normally "quote" them…
You're right. I've fixed it. I meant to do that last night and just plain forgot.
Nice one, Jim. I've now read all of them to date. I told you I would
Glad to hear it! Stay tuned for more!
who is this new "old friend" i wonder? i must meditate on this…
but first! is the e with the accent supposed to be caps?
Yeah, apparently that letter doesn't exist in the Mainframe font. I guess I'm going to have to just drop the accent and use a regular 'E'.
well, couldn't you just use an alt code to get the job done? or would that provide the same problem?
Have we met this old friend before perchance?
Just wondering, how long do you think the Reclaimer's story will last for? 182 comics is a lot!
No, we haven't.

As are we.

It's definitely not Ferial. I wouldn't exactly call him a 'friend.'
Hmm…no clue then. Is it anyone we've seen before? Or someone completely new to the picture?
I'm fairly sure this is a new character, because we haven't seen much into RC's past (hey Jim, make it Henderson from my machinima :p) and this is on Orbital, we haven't been there yet except as a monologue for that Viper member. What machinima? o.0
Oh the one I was planning it the forum. The thread titled "Watch this space for machinima information
awesome as always =]
oh it may just be me but the second frame looks like it has a rude word in it. Nothing much but i had to re-read that a couple of times =p

Hah! I can't imagine one of the Cavalcade getting all angry and constantly swearing…but I tried when I saw that and it gave me just a little laugh.
My guess is that it's the AI he worked with when he was a Spartan. this old friend could be to Reclaimer what Cortana is to the Master Chief. Just a thought.
Possibly, but we have seen him before, so i don't know.
Have we? I remember we saw Goddard, but that wasn't Reclaimer's AI just a UNSC one.
Exactly. Goddard was just a 'random' UNSC AI that accidentally stumbled across Rulebook and got pulled into Ferial's scheming.
"They're still out there – listening."

Yeah, you really don't get to see the true Master Chief until you've read the books and realize just how intelligent he is.
Ever since the first couple of comics I liked Reclaimers narration, and the "inner reclaimer" is very cool, but in an earlier comic didn't he (Reclaimer) talk about how he was being rubbed off on by the calvacade intelect, and they were getting some of his sarcastic traits? lol hes going to see the superintendent!! =D
Hehe, that'd be a bit of a one-sided conversation.
So… he'd feel right at home? I mean, he already talks to the voices in his head, I'm pretty sure he'd be able to communicate with the Superintendent just as well!
mmm…. old friend…. whatever happened to that Viper guy who was locked up by one of the Calvacada?
Oh, him? I think someone ate him…
well. The UNSC come out of the monologues. Finally.
Nice Work Jim, very cryptic, and yet, slightly more insightful.
Keep it up, please.
Always, my friend.
Nice font for "Flicker" in 2nd panal. I lol'd.
Yeah, strange stuff like that happens sometimes… weird.
Dear god. Kidding right?

Yup, more of Disk, but also something of a conclusion regarding Fractal… Great stuff Jim.
Great minds think alike. That's all I can say to that, Adam.
Haha, thank you my good sir. A much appreciated compliment
I half expected Epitaph again, but remembered that it was in the desert. Now I’m expecting the pit as Reclaimers training grounds.
No, I have very specific plans for Epitaph. We won't be seeing it for a while yet.
Which is why I guess the pit.
I really hope we see the Machine again some time. That would be epic. Just tell us, will he at one point in the series return?
The second speech bubble would have been better like this:
"Can u guyz access teh UNSC datanetz from here.
You're right. Just let me go adjust the dialogue to lol-speak.
Nah, you want:
"You guys can haz in teh UNSC netz n own teh laz0rz?"
I can haz datanetz?
"Yur datanetz iz brokez0rrs…"
Foundry anyone?
ohh, I forgot that map, not the best for scenery though, but it would work better than the pit.
I would like to change my pit theory to foundry.
Reclaimer, are you trying to download the internet into your brain?
You know the only thing that exists on the internet is Leet speak, disjointed douglas adams quotes, and illegal music.
Don't do it!
I don't know yet, but I suspect it's likely.
