CAVALCADE: We see it, as well. It appears that the relay switch has overloaded. We have lost the connection planet-side.

Nearly all the comics since the new site design have the mouse-over text, yes.
I never said that it was a good idea. Even with the gel and reinforced bones there will be still a lot of pain and shock to deal with.

Ferial actually has nothing to do with this. It's actually just a simple case of the UNSC allowing one of their abandoned outposts fall into decay.
Why didn't they just scrap it for money or something? Also, I would like to change my guess to foundry, as that seems like the more logical choice now.

Two words – the Flood.
All the more reason to scrap it. You would think that the UNSC would purge all links to earth before the flood found them.
There hasn't been nearly enough time. The Flood poured over humanity so fast that survival is the only thing they've been able to think about. Scrapping out old installations isn't even on their radar right now.
Still, I would place removing any links to Earth on the top of my priority list if If I ran the UNSC. But I suppose you're right.

I'm surprised at the bright light in that third panel. I know there's some pretty direct lighting on Orbital, but I didn't realize it was so varied as to get the darkness in panel one and the brightness in that third panel!
I was kind of surprised by it, as well. Made it really interesting to film.
