With the flood, if you take the gravemind you take ALL OF THEM. They are a hive mind, essentially, and each individual flood "unit" is more of an extension of the body of the flood, and the Gravemind is the brain. I'm curious as to why Ferial hadn't just destroyed the Flood completely, however the two possibilities are obvious: he couldn't or he wouldn't.
