VOICEOVER
I still haven't found out what happened. All I know is that one minute, we're on maneuvers, and the next...
VOICEOVER
God, there was blood everywhere. I've never seen anything like it. I hope I never do again.
VOICEOVER
A lot of the guys died outright. There wasn't time to get a close look. Hell, I wouldn't have even wanted to. What it looked like, though, was that their heads exploded.
VOICEOVER
I know this will sound bizarre, but my first thought was, "Looks like someone put a damn M-80 inside a cantaloupe and lit the fuckin' fuse."
VOICEOVER
And it happened all through the squad. No idea why.
Crashed Pelican in the sand below.
VOICEOVER
That wasn't even the strangest part. Most of the guys just kind of lurched, no matter what it was they were doing.
VOICEOVER
It looked like a great, big, collective hiccup. Their eyes all went glassy and empty - just for a second.
Bird's-eye view of a Phantom.
VOICEOVER
Then they just looked at each other, looked at all the headless bodies lying around, and started walking in the same direction. It's been days now, and I don't know where they went.
VOICEOVER
I don't want to know.
A large, open room inside a Forerunner structure.
VOICEOVER
I saw a Phantom a couple of days ago. I watched it flow low on the horizon. At one point, it dipped a little - wobbled - and abruptly changed direction. The same direction my squaddies went.
VOICEOVER
I can't help but think that the same thing's happened to the Covenant.
VOICEOVER
I wish I knew what happened - and why it missed me.
Close-up on an energy column.
VOICEOVER
I'm going to try to find help. If whatever-it-was missed me, then it must have missed others, too. I need to find out how widespread this is.
VOICEOVER
I need to find out how much trouble we're in.

Yay immunity!
But otherwise, looks like Ferial has smething up his sleeve, some kind of assault planned or something, if everyone's going the same way because of his orders…
Immunity, indeed…
The Virus has Evolved!!
I knew it, we're all going to die. Starting with you Jim.
Love the comic, dont love the lack of mouse-over txt.
Weird. I definitely put a mouse-over text in. I'll have to figure out tomorrow why it's not showing up. It was funny, too – "Memory wipe on Aisle 3!"
It's not showing up for me, either.
Fixed.
Hey Jim I just signed up but I've followed it since the beginning. You have an awesome thing goin here! I've started postin to the news on Bungie.net when your comic comes out. Also, panel 4 should probably be fly instead of flow
DS head here is right. It should be 'fly'. However, if you were to change the sentence around you could possibly use 'flew'. That was probably what you were thinking at the time, a multisentence disjointed thought process similar to that of Nick's in Ernest Hemingway's "Big Two-Hearted River." But thats a digression, and it's too much work, so fly works better. Excellent insight into the inner workings of the human condition as always, Jim. ;}
I feel bad for the Corporal. Dude's had it pretty rough lately.
Man this virus is getting meaner and meaner. I mean, exploding heads?
Nice graphic image with the M-80 :p So what does this immunity entail we all ponder… And what is in that direction??? Great work as always Jim. So are you feeling better?
Hehe, thought you guys might like the visual.
And yeah, I think I am starting to feel somewhat better.
How do we know you didn't die and were replaced by an evil alien thing a billion years old bent on controlling all life in the galaxy? Oh wait, that's me…
Rather fixated on my death, aren't you?
Indeed he is…and SnowXing, are you suggesting that Jim is Ferial?!
That's a good point. That means, if I'm Ferial, the outcome of this comic is going to be decidedly biased.
Unless Ferials motives are actually to save everybody!
I was actually suggesting that I was bent on conquering the galaxy, but not exactly Ferial. I don't have clones of me and I don't look like an alien so I can't be Ferial, at least not that I know of.
Maybe just a little…
silently laughing to self
Yup, typo fixed.
First time I saw one of your submissions, I thought, "Since when does urk go by the name Rav Raider?" :p
Wow, I just found this! Very intriguing reading! I guess I need to read up on the Halo story, since your comic here seems to rely on that pretty heavily. I never realized the game had such a huge background to it. Keep up the good work!
Thanks, Red! Glad you're enjoying it. And you definitely need to look into the Haloverse storyline. Play the games (if you haven't already), read the books. It's a huge universe – courtesy of Bungie – and a great sandbox for us, as fans, to play in.
Hell yeah. I have a nice corner by the red spade
Exploding melon, Eh?
Now this comic truly does have everything.
Foom!
Super sheep are still MIA…
That joke took me longer to get than others. Now I'm ashamed to call myself a worms fan.
lol worms rocks. I might download it from xbox marketplace, its an arcade game.
(Quick think of something to do with Reclaimer so post isn't deleted)
....good comic?
Worms is ok. Worms Armageddon is better.
Worms 3D was intense.
Who could believe that such an innocent game would eventually get me addicted to Halo.
... :O there was a joke? I just said it out of the Internet's spirit of random sayings.
I could have sworn I just heard the voice of Douglas Adams disagreeing…
Actually, Intuitive Portent is a Super sheep. Fact.
And the Mercyhoard is… a soda machine's uncle?
Drop a quarter, get a millenia-old soft drink back. Fossilized.
So a millennia-old hard drink then?
Melancholy
And the Mercyhoard is… a soda machine's uncle?
Just like the others, the image of poor innocent marines' heads exploding makes this one much better!
Just like the others, the image in my mind of poor innocent marines' heads exploding makes this one much better than it would be without exploding heads…mmmmm explosions….drool
wow, i never noticed the mouse-over text. Does this mean i have to start over again?
Um, it's worse than that. I only started doing the mouse-over messages when the new site design went live earlier this year. So, only some of the comics have mouse-overs.
Great comic as usual!
Thank you!
Yay, you updated, which means you must be doing better, so double-yay!
Urk…"double yay". I need a new term to replace that >>. Anyways. I'm so excited by this development that I really can't say much outside of "double yay".
Yeah, at the moment I'm doing… ok.
Jim I found the problem with the mouse-over text. In the code, line 394, it has two quotation marks in a row before and after the text. Take out one of each of those and it works; I tested it. If you want it in quotes when you roll over it, you will need to use " before and after the words, but in between the quotation marks that define the text.
Oh, of course. I can't believe I didn't think of that. Thanks for pinning that down.
no problem. i like workin with html and css
html and css are fun, php can be a real pain sometimes though.
ive never used php, i don't even know what it is or stands for
PHP = PHP: Hypertext Preprocessor. It's the thing that allows sites with dynamic content (like this one) to function. I never built a website that isn't built on PHP anymore. Static HTML is just boring.
But at the same time it's five times easier to work with. It has it's ups and downs.
Besides, why spend your time building websites when you can spend it building tf2 maps!
I may look into that. It's definitely very interesting. also where is the comic for today? :*(]
Double
Speechless, I see.
This space intentionally left blank.
Context is everything.
Trying to make sense of an inside joke is even better.
What I'm trying to say is that it's like a transformer. There's more to it than meets the eye.
"What do you think of this person?"

Ha. Hows it feel to know that your face was just outfaced.
