The thing is that the last man standing in the slasher movies always gets out alive. That's the cardinal mistake people in those movies make, they try to get everyone out alive, when they should be trying to make sure they are the last one left alive.

Can't you make a new layer with just that laser and sharpen it and maybe increase the contrast and the brightness.
In most comics effects like that aren't supposed to look pencil drawn. They usually look painted on.
