Current status: enjoying the fine weather at Myrtle Beach.
I got a call last night from Best Buy’s Geek Squad. It seems that I suffered hard drive failure, so they’ve replaced the disk and I’ve asked them to try to recover as much data as possible. My important files are backed up on Dropbox but I have a lot of music and media files that simply don’t fit there. If all goes well then I should have my computer and data back in the next couple of weeks.

It's not like I have much of a choice. Best Buy is who I have myproduct replacement plan with. I've already paid for the service (whenI initially bought my laptop) and I honestly can't afford anythingelse.
Dropbox is a life saver! I'm a photographer and have my 50+Gb of photos all backed up on my Dropbox!
You must have purchased one of the extended plans. I've been pretty happy with the free membership thus far.
