This thread is for me to post links to my Halo fan-fiction, titled Sami's War, and for you who don't have deviantArt accounts to leave comments, criticisms, and theories concerning the plot and the characters. For those who do have a dA account, please comment on the chapters themselves. Thank you.

And so, the first three things:
-Author's Note From the "fictional", 27th century author of this work.
-Prologue (This is only important for backstory. I wrote it a while back, so this is of poorer quality than the rest of the story should be)
-Chapter 1 - Federal Offense An intro to the lieutenant general from the ONI conversations, and to the battle over Washington, D.C.

EDIT: For those curious, Chapter 1 is 7388 words long.

"Hoo-rah!"

Well, I feel like I should start introducing a few characters that are present in my fan-fiction writing, and specifically the photoshops I make using Halo 3 screenshots to show them. So, let's begin:

-Cathy-327 (Focus on the visor of her helmet. You'll see what I mean.)
-The Cast (A partial cast shot. Download for best view, but be advised that it is a very large file)
-Aurora (One of the AI's that will play a part in the story. Yes, that was who it looks like.)

<transmission intercepted: 2553/08/10/0635 MT>
<decrypting; running server tracing spike>
<transmission source confirmed: Bravo90210, ONI/Section III/Beta-5>
<transmission decrypted>
<begin>:

Bravo90210: Well, I guess it's time to stop hiding from the rampant AI. She probably knows exactly where we are, anyway. So, did you get that file I sent you yesterday?
Yankee88337: What, that one on the history of military augmentations? Yeah, I got it.
Bravo90210: Well, what did you think?
Yankee88337: Very interesting read, especially the part about the late 20th to early 21st centuries. <censored> up stuff there, man. Like the LG. I didn't realize that was how she got those scars. I didn't see any references to the Angel Experiments or Resurrection, though, except in the history blurb on how Sierra Echo Hotel 5002 assassinated a bunch of the politicians and business people who had secretly supported that stuff. But I must admit, I'm a bit surprised no one has tried using nanobot augmentations since then.
Bravo90210: I had a conversation a little while back with one of my superiors, and she said that doing so successfully was way too expensive in both lives and money. What killed most of the people the procedurre was performed on wasn't the pain, or blood loss, or trauma to the nervous system, it was the body's rejection of all the nanobots at once. They died of fevers totalling over 110 degrees F. And aside from that, the genetics required for it to come anywhere near succeeding don't occur naturally. They have to be artificially engineered, like the LG. Besides, I'm a believer in human mortality. Everyone's gotta die sometime, so we shouldn't go around making people live for over a thousand years.
Yankee88337: What about using cryo?
Bravo90210: That's different. Long term cryo, like what Sierra Echo Hotel 5002 used is prohibitively expensive, and you're ASLEEP the entire time. Although, I guess over four-hundred years still isn't enough to cure insomnia. Probably made the LG's sleep problem even...no, wait, that came later...
Yankee88337: You've got me curious. When?
Bravo90210: ...Around 2537.
Yankee88337: Yeah. Maybe it had something to with the new class of Twos...wait....
Bravo90210: What?
Yankee88337: Didn't...didn't the LG have a...but she was so involved, she would have known if her...that means...no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. That can't be right.
Bravo90210: Calm down, dude.
Yankee88337: How? How could she do that? How could anyone make that decision?
Bravo90210: ...I don't know. Hope, maybe? That the situation could be resolved in the future? Only the LG and a few others know, and 327 isn't saying much either.

<end transmission>

"They had to bring that up, didn't they? Of course, I can see the irony now."
"What, Sami?"
"Hm? Oh, Matthew. The irony is that even though I thought it was the worst decision I had ever made at first, if I hadn't, I'm sure Ackerson-"
"You really think so?"
"Yes, he would have. I'm glad I made that decision. For her sake."

117: “Are you alright, kid?”
327: “Why did they kill her?”
117: “It happens, kid. Seventy-five of us were selected for the class of 2517. Only thirty-three were fit for combat after augmentations. The rest couldn’t handle it. It’s not Dr. Halsey’s fault. ”
327: “Okay…Do you think they’ll kill me?”
117: “What?”
327: “They’ll kill me won’t they? They’ll kill me ‘cause I tried to kill her for killing Yasmine. I don’t want to die. I’ll be good now. I swear. I’ll be good. I won’t hurt anybody. I won’t kill anybody.”
117: “Kid…”
327: (sobbing) “I don’t want to die. I’m sorry, I’m sorry, I’m so sorry. Please don’t let them kill me, John, please don’t let them kill me. Not like her. I want to be a soldier, John. I’ll be a good little soldier just don’t let them kill me please!”
117: “Kid, calm down. They won’t kill you. They know you’ll be a good soldier. They know you were born to be a soldier. Besides, there are others who have an investment in your future.”
327: “Who?”
117: “General Hartford does, Little Sierra.”
327: “Why do you call me that?”
117: “You’re one of the youngest Spartans to have ever been conscripted, that’s why.”
327: “John, tell Dr. Halsey…tell her I’m sorry.”
<transmission source confirmed: Yankee88337, ONI/Section III/Beta-5>
<transmission decrypted>
<begin>:

  Yankee88337: I have two things to say. First, why the hell would the LG want control over two programs that are defunct? Second, I can't find solutions to your problems unless you tell me what they are.
Bravo90210: Alright, alright. Take it easy. From what I understand, Sierra Echo Hotel 5002 wants to start a fourth 'program' somewhere down the line. From what I can understand, it's mostly a glorified, super selective military school, only churning out Fours when the need arises. The problem with that is that she would have to reveal the existence of the Threes first. The other problem is making sure Echo44666 doesn't overstep his duties.
Yankee88337: Why does she need control of the 'programs' to do that?
Bravo90210: I don't know exactly. I have a file attached with some interesting information you may want to look at.
Yankee88337: Thanks. That reminds me, how did the UNSC manage to afford that second class of Twos?
Bravo90210: Fox Military Systems offered to pay for it. With all the "free with a catch" stuff they did for the UNSC, they probably saved the war. And I think they're the source of the info leak.
Yankee88337: How?
Bravo90210: Juliet Alpha 20101 had them participate in development of SPI. That's when the RAVEN was first introduced. My other reason is in the attached file.

<end>
<file attached. open(y/n)?> y
<decrypting file...>

SPARTAN-IIs not confirmed KIA (MIA/alive post 11-3-2552)
-Class of 2517-
Kurt-051: MIA
Linda-058: MIA
Maria-062: alive, retired
Kelly-087: MIA
Frederick-104: MIA
John-117: MIA, presumed KIA

-Class of 2537-
Cathy-327: alive, active

This is the first problem. Her transponder signal dropped off the grid after March this year. Last known location was in Colorado, USA. We believe Lt.Gen. Hartford is trying to get her discharged from the Navy and enlisted in the Marine Corps. We believe that is her main reason for trying to get ownership of the project shifted.

SPARTAN-IIIs not confirmed KIA
-Alpha Company-
All KIA during Operation PROMETHEUS

-Beta Company-
Lucy-B091: MIA
Matthew-B170: MIA in Operation TORPEDO, assumed KIA
Tom-B292: MIA

-Gamma Company-
STATUS UNKNOWN

Here is the other problem. Matthew is supposed to be dead, but we've recently seen his transponder pop up on the grid for a few minutes, then disappear again. This has happened several times, and quite frankly, I don't have a damn clue why. If he is alive, however, he may hold the answer to that damn leak.

<close file>
<sending copy of transmission to Nighthawk>
<attached note to copy: I don't like the way this is going. We'll keep monitoring, but we may need to terminate Bravo here soon. They've been pretty careless with their information, but I suppose their encryptions are well beyond civilian capabilities, and the only people they're used to listening in on their conversations are Section 0 spooks. Can't find anything on Echo44666. Sami out.>

Yankee88337: OK, Bravo, sorry to burst your little code-word bubble, but "B-I-T-O" does not read "B-1-7-0" in leet speak. It should read something more like "13-1-7-0" or "8-1-7-0".
Bravo90210: Your point? It hardly matters, since we can't effectively track either the sergeant or the Three. And please, try to keep things a little professional.
Yankee88337: Alright, no more leet speak from me. Say, did you get Melissa? I mean, it's been eight years, and she needs to be shut down ASAP so we don't have a rampant AI on the loose.
Bravo90210: No, actually, we didn't. She just completely disappeared from the grid shortly after we narrowed down her primary database to a part of Boston, Massachusetts, USA.
Yankee88337: That can't be good.
Bravo90210: You think? Not only could it destroy the UNSC if insurgents got their hands on it, now I have to come up with a way to explain away this sudden disappearance, or I am <censored>. In the meantime, I just sent you a file. Did you get it?
Yankee88337: Yeah, I did. What is it?
Bravo90210: DNA records from all active duty UNSC Marine officers, the second class of Twos, and the Three-Bs. Some very interesting information in there.
Yankee88337: You have a sick sense of humor, man. This file is empty.
Bravo90210: What? Empty? That's not possible!
Yankee88337: Yeah, well, I'm just reporting what I see. Why don't you just tell me the information?
Bravo90210: I guess I gotta, huh? Well then, little 327 and the Three we'#$ a#$&r @$%&^@%^%$&#^&%@*%()%*)#$TQW)HY%JOGUGWEAUT$)UTRApr <full data corruption>
Yankee88337: Oh, <censored>.
Bravo90210: <censored>.

<close file>

"Was that really necessary, Melissa?"
"I think so."
"Maybe I should be worried about you going rampant."
"I AM rampant, Sami. I'm just in this nice state that's only supposed to exist in theory, called 'Meta-Stability'."
"Right. A sentient AI. Although I do suppose your...extraordinary circumstances do allow for such a thing to have happened. Still, you pulling s#!% like that pisses me off."
"Well, what are you going to do about it? I highly doubt Aurora is capable of shutting me down."
"You'd be surprised. She just as boneheaded as she was in life, and is just as likely to do succeed in doing something crazy as she is to fail. Besides, she was designed as primarily a shipboaard AI. Crazy tactics can work in that field, especially in the case of her father."
"I really don't think-"
"I have too go now. Why don't you run the fighting simulations for your old friend while I'm busy, hm?"
"Let Yasmine and Cathy play again for the first time in eight years? Sounds like I'm going to enjoy this."

     I’d say it was an honor to have served with you, sir, but I can’t say that because I haven’t had that honor. Hell, until recently I didn’t even get to say that to anyone. Finally getting into combat after fifteen years of training for it feels damn good. Unfortunately, my Mk IV and Mk V were on Reach, and I have yet to receive my Mk VI. That pisses me off, and I’m just praying that it gets sent before the war is over. I want to fight like a Spartan. I guess being “short” has its advantages, like blending in. And I guess I hung around those ODSTs (while kicking their @$$es in wilderness paintball) a bit too much while I was waiting for augmentations, since all these soldiers think I’m just another Marine. Or maybe I picked that up from Sami. Turns out even Generals cuss a lot when they get pissed off. Or maybe it’s just her. Anyway, a few men in my company know, including the commander, but they can keep a secret. I just hope I won’t have to myself for much longer, but knowing the LG…
I have to say, I now look at Colorado to be as much my home as Reach was. It was where I was born and raised before I became a Spartan, and now I’m living there again. Military matters, of course. I’ve been staying at the Mount Antero facility, near the old NORAD base at Cheyenne Mountain, undergoing that special training program Sami set up. It’s brutal, even for a Spartan. Even one with such exceptional genetics, she only needed half the normal augmentations. : ) (or should that have been a frown?)
You know exactly who I am, don’t you? You always have (Thanks for not telling me, by the way. Seriously. That's not sarcasm, despite my tendency to use it.). Not like it really mattered to you anyway. Of course, I can’t avoid it now, but I’m…a little used to it. You never singled me out as a potential leader (hell, with the stupid things I did like that time I tried to kill Dr. Halsey, you probably wanted to keep your distance), but you watched me because you were ordered to by someone with…well, I guess General Hartford had significant ties to the Spartan program after 2537, but she wasn’t supposed to have any authority over it. To have done that, and to have broken into as many secret records as she has (it’s safe to tell you, ONI already knows. They also know they can‘t do anything about it), she must have nerves of steel. OK, bad joke, because she literally does have metal coating some of her nerves. I guess that’s how she still holds the record for fastest reaction time in any human being. Ever. If you ever wondered why I came back to Reach from those training sessions covered in bruises, now you know. The irony is, having faster reflexes than a Spartan doesn't mean a thing if you can't get out on the battlefield, and the LG's been stuck at command for quite some time. Of course, she'll probably come up with some excuse now that D.C.'s under attack. Always screwing convention, just like me. :)
I haven’t heard from any of the others recently. Cassandra’s hospital got hit, Blue Team got sent on a top-secret mission involving something I’m not supposed to know about (but I do, and that’s just the way it is *waves middle finger at Colonel James Ackerson*), I don’t talk to Maria, and Grey team I haven’t ever seen in my entire life. As far as I know, my entire class is dead, and so is most of yours. You’re the only one left who I know and trust, the only leader left of us. All I ask is that you finish your fight, and come back alive.
I’d wish you good luck, but I know you don’t need me to. But just in case that’s not good enough:
It’s been an honor to have known you, sir.
<begin>:

  Bravo90210: I have a bad feeling about what's been going on lately with "Sierra Echo Hotel 5002".
Yankee88337: What do you mean?
Bravo90210: She's been trying to pass control of the, you know, the "programs" to the Corps.
Yankee88337: Wait, you said 'programs'. Plural. How the <censored> does she know about the Threes?
Bravo90210: I ran several checks. I believe that "Mike Delta 33045" leaked the information to her.
Yankee88337: "Mike Delta 33045"? You mean Phoenix? The guy with the messed-up hands who helped train the second group of Twos? How the hell does HE know about that?
Bravo90210: "Juliet Alpha 20101" tried to recruit him to train the Three-G's.
Yankee88337: What are you going to do about that?
Bravo90210: I can't say for sure that he is the informant, but I suggested that a tail be placed to watch him.
Yankee88337: What if that..."November" person snuck around and told the General?
Bravo90210: I don't think so. Besides, you know "November" is impossible to track.
Yankee88337: I guess. So, who did they send to watch Phoenix?
Bravo90210: Echo44666.
Yankee: They sent that son of a <censored>?! Haven't you checked HIS past?
Bravo90210: I have, and I believe he will be more than motivated enough to keep excellent track of both the problems. I'll talk to you again later. You had better have a solution for these problems ready by 2300 MT this Saturday.

<end>
<attached note: Keep an eye on these two. If they dig too deeply, they'll endanger Operation ENDWAR. In the meantime, I'll have Aurora run a search on this "Echo44666" character. Sami out.>

A teaser for my upcoming project (God, I sound like Bungie saying that):

<security log archive: SPARTAN-II quarters, January 4, 2546, 0830>

Spartan-327: “Where’s Yaz?”
(silence)
327: “Where’s…what happened to Yasmine?”
Dr. Catherine Halsey: “She washed out.”
327: “What do you mean ‘she washed out’?”
Doctor: “There were…complications…during the augmentation process…”
327: “During?”
Doctor: “Yes.”
327: “Then…then she’s…she’s…”
D.C.H.: “I’m sorry, but she…”
327: “You…you…you killed her.”
D.C.H.: “She wasn’t strong enough to-”
327: “You bastards! You killed her! You killed my friend! You killed Yasmine!”
D.C.H.: “John, stop her!”
327: “Let me go, John! They killed her! Let. Me. Go! They killed my friend!
Spartan-117: “Stop this now. You’re not the only one to have lost a friend-”
327: “The Covenant killed your friend! These liars killed mine! That’s right you bastards! YOU KILLED HER!”
D.C.H.: “John!”
327: “Unh-!”
117: “Done, ma’am.”
D.C.H.: “We need to talk to General Hartford about this. Put her in solitary confinement before she wakes up. I don’t want her going around and killing all the doctors.”
Doctor: “Do you think we should have her talk to Melissa?”
D.C.H.: “That might work, but it might backfire. But first, have John talk to her. He should be able to make her understand.”

And now, for something a bit more scientific in nature:

<Progress Log, Subject: SPARTAN-327, Begins 2537>

[ENTRY: 2537] Subject conscripted into SPARTAN-II program at 4 years old, on Lt. Gen. S. E. Hartford’s recommendations.
[ENTRY: 2545] Subject displays physical and mental capabilities exceeding that of all other members of the class of 2537. Near perfect night vision, extreme stamina, super fast reflexes, abnormal strength. Displays a strong attachment to candidate Yasmine and toward John-117.
[ENTRY: January, 2546] Subject attempted to kill Dr. Catherine Halsey and another doctor upon learning of candidate Yasmine’s death during augmentation procedures. Placed in solitary confinement for two weeks while General Hartford is contacted. Persuaded by John-117 to forgive Dr. Halsey. Gen. Hartford replies: “Give the kid one more chance.”
[ENTRY: December, 2546] Subject is progressing well after nervous breakdown in January. Continues to show improvement in combat-related fields. Good team participation when matched with others in the top of the class of 2537. When matched with individuals she perceives as weaker than herself, team participation weakens. Strong sense of individualism. Still displays disdain toward Dr. Halsey.
[ENTRY: February 1, 2547] Augmentations re-scheduled to August 1, 2547.
[ENTRY: March 1, 2547] As approved by Dr. Catherine Halsey, subject is sent to Earth to test a new training program developed by Lt. Gen. Hartford.
[ENTRY: July 30, 2547] Subject returns to Reach. ANOMALY REPORTED: Scheduled augmentations do not match normal procedures. Verifying with Dr. Catherine Halsey… Dr. Halsey reports that the current scheduling of carbide ceramic ossification, minor musculature enhancement injections, and superconducting fabrication of neural dendrites is correct. Study of subject’s eyes reveals mirror structure behind the retina, similar to the eyes of a cat; occipital capillary reversal is unnecessary. Thyroid appears naturally stimulated. Tests reveal slight presence of super-fast myosin in muscle tissue.
[ENTRY: August 1, 2547] Subject undergoes augmentations.
[ENTRY: December 31, 2547] Subject has fully recovered from augmentations with no apparent long term side-affects, is sent back to Earth.
[ENTRY: March 25, 2548] Subject returns to Reach. Displays marked improvements in hand-to-hand combat and accuracy. Displays great stamina and agility, but lacks in raw speed. Reflexes have not improved as much as expected. Also shows signs of becoming more willful. Unusually talkative, may develop into a problem in combat situations. Sings to herself when alone, seems to prefer music from late twentieth century.
[ENTRY: 2551] Continues separate training regiment with Lt. Gen. Hartford. Training sessions have by this time been set to 3-5 month periods on Earth. Promoted to Petty Officer First Class by December 8. Returned to Reach December 19.
[ENTRY: April 1, 2552] Returns to Earth for five month training session.
[ENTRY: June, 2552] SPARTAN-327 promoted to Chief Petty Officer. Has attained an unusually high rank for her age. Has not seen any actual combat, unusual even for a Spartan of her year. Rank is based solely off of leadership skills and combat skills in realistic combat simulations. As a result of these simulations, has considerable tactical experience with platoon-sized units, both Spartan and non-Spartan in nature.

<Progress Log Ends, August 2552>

<transmission intercepted: 2553/07/27/0240 MT>
<decrypting; running server tracing spike>
<transmission source confirmed: Bravo90210, ONI/Section III/Beta-5 Division>
<transmission decrypted>
<begin>:

Bravo90210: Time for an update. You got those solutions ready?
Yankee88337: As for your first problem, I really don't see a solution. The only possibility is to take Sierra Echo Hotel 5002 out before she can reveal the existence of the Threes, but the sudden death of someone so high up the chain of command is sure to get someone's attention. Fortunately, I don't think the Fours are going to crop up anytime soon. Best estimates say twenty years minimum before we can support them. As for your other problem, just ask Section 0. The LG loves those guys, and I'm sure she'd...overlook it if we were to include a few on the mission roster.
Bravo90210: OK. I also don't think we can stop the programs from changing hands, though.
Yankee88337: Why?
Bravo90210: Maria-062 just threw her support in favor of the LG's plans. I wonder whether it was the LG herself or her little Two who convinced Maria to do that...Anyway, I think I know the source of the leak about the Threes.
Yankee88337: Who?
Bravo90210: Mike Foxtrot 8822 (ha, it's funny how many ways you can take that), the current CEO of FMS. Apparently he learned of the Threes way back around the famous "Deal of '31", when Juliet Alpha 20101 contacted the company to manufacture parts for SPI. Our shrewd businessman somehow managed to keep extracting data about the program, and likely passed it on to Hotel 5002. Of course, the magnitude of the company means we really can't do anything about it right now. The UNSC owes them far too much.
Yankee88337: Speaking of SPI, whatever happened to the little Three we were chasing after. Has he managed to disappear on us again?
Bravo90210: Bad joke. Don't say it again. I found something very interesting, a Marine Corps sergeant named Matthew Bito.
Yankee88337: So? Your point?
Bravo90210: B-I-T-O. In "1337" speak, that reads B-1-7-0.
Yankee88337: Woah, wasn't expecting that at all. Can we trace him?
Bravo90210: No, we can't. Still, I found something I can trace. Well, kinda, since it's in the grid. I don't know how she managed to end up in the grid after that incident with the Apocalypso, but we found Melissa.
Yankee88337: Holy <censored>!!!!!11!!!!!!1111one!!!!

<end>
<sending copy of transmission to: Nighthawk, Michael Fox, GySgt. Bito, MGySgt. Hansen, Captain Dowling>
<attached note to copy: Why is it that every time these guys bring some reassuring news, they also find a way to piss me off? I need "Hansen" and Captain Mason Dowling to secure Melissa immediately. Nighthawk, you get ready to take these two out if they dig any deeper...and bring your invisible shadow with you. I've had enough of this <censored>, half-<censored>, <censored> bull<censored>!>
