Congratulations to Ron Z., the winner of the Halo 3: ODST screenshot contest! His entry garnered 18% of the final vote and has earned him a copy of Bungie’s latest title and a code to unlock Sgt. Johnson in Firefight.
Thanks to all of you who participated, both with your submissions and with your votes. You’ve helped make this another successful contest. See a full gallery of all the contest entries below the fold. ↓ Read the rest of this entry…
I know the results of the Reclaimer: Sandbox are long overdue, but at long last, the judging is done and the winners chosen. Eighteen submissions were sent in, with four being disqualified for not following the submission guidelines or for dead links. Of the remaining fourteen, six made the cut for my favorites, which I then had to winnow down to a winner and a runner-up. Below you will find a quick synopsis of each map and a download link to grab the files from the various File Shares. Following that, I’ll reveal the winner and the runner-up! ↓ Read the rest of this entry…

I know I promised to have the results of the Reclaimer: Sandbox contest ready today, but to be honest, I haven’t even had time to look at the submissions yet due to be out of town this past weekend. This means that the results are going to be delayed next Monday at the earliest. I’m planning to sit down for a couple of hours on Saturday and run through everything, since I’ll actually be home. On the plus side, now that the Reclaimer Store is online, it means that I’ll be able to add a couple of t-shirts to the prize pool for the winners as an extra bonus for my making you wait.
See? It’s not all bad.

I’m a little late catching up (a sign of the way my entire week has gone), but the Reclaimer: Sandbox contest closed to submissions at 11PM last night. So what’s next?
I have in my inbox 17 submissions from all over the world that I need to look through and judge. I’m going to try to have the final results ready by next Wednesday, despite being out of town (and away from my Xbox) this weekend. At that time, I’ll have a complete writeup of the results and one or two screenshots from each submission. I’ll also post links to the maps in their respective file share locations for anyone else who wants to check them out.
So that’s where things stand right now. Thank you to everyone who participated. I’ll have another contest in two or three months, once I’m able to get my prize cache restocked.
In the meantime, I hope you continue to enjoy Reclaimer, as I hope to have some extra-special goodies showing up here and there over the next few weeks.

By now, many of you have the Mythic Maps and have had a chance to tool around in them. In celebration of this, I’m opening the doors to the second Reclaimer contest: Sandbox!
Here’s the deal. I’m looking for an awesome new set to be used extensively in an upcoming Reclaimer. When it comes to Forge, I admit it – I’m a n00b. But I’ve seen some amazing stuff come out of the Halo community at large in the past, so I’m opening up an opportunity to you to help me by Forging a sweet Reclaimer set on the new Sandbox map – and to win some pretty sweet prizes in the process.
Use up your entire budget. Slam into that Object Cap. Interlock and geo-glitch the heck out of those objects. Use the Crypt, the surface, the sky bubble – or use all three. Whatever you choose to do, I want you to blow me away with Forging awesomeness. Make my jaw drop. Reshape Sandbox to your will.
What’s up for grabs? One lucky – and hardworking – Grand Prize winner will receive:
One runner-up will receive:
The top five Forgeries will find a place in the Reclaimer story during future arcs.
Here’s how you enter: the Sandbox Contest will be open until 10PM Eastern Daylight Time, Wednesday, March 18, 2009. Create your Forge masterworks on Sandbox, upload them to your file share, and email the link to your map to reclaimercomic@gmail.com. Include your name, email address, and mailing address. Entries that fail to adhere to these guidelines will be immediately disqualified.
So, what are you waiting for? You’ve got two weeks to enter, and the clock’s a-ticking!
Here it is at long last – the first official Reclaimer contest!
Here’s the deal – y’all are going to have to work for this one a little bit. Start with this image:
Create three more comic pages (not panels) that build from the above image. You can create more than three if you’d like, but you will only be judged on the first three. Entries will be judged on visual layout and quality, storytelling quality, and creativity. If you need a How-To, make sure to take a look at this tutorial for creating a Reclaimer comic.
This is your chance to get involved in the Reclaimer storyline. If you haven’t already, make sure to read back through the Reclaimer archives and get familiar with Viper – then set off running and tell a story about the origins of Viper.
What’s up for grabs? The winning comic will receive an autographed Forerunner image from PAX 2008 (courtesy of Louis Wu over at halo.bungie.org), a hooded Reclaimer sweatshirt signed by the author, 1600 Xbox Live points (contributed by Amer then00b), a signed print from the Reclaimer archives, and a feature spot on the Reclaimer site for your comic.
The contest will be open from today, Sept. 15 through midnight (EDT) Oct. 6. Entries can be submitted either through the contact form here on the site or can be sent directly to reclaimercomic@gmail.com (put “Reclaimer Comic Contest” in the subject line and include your gamertag and/or the name you use to comment in the body of the email).
Anything I missed? Send me a message – and have fun!
Update (16 Sept 2008 0800 EDT): All entries must be built from Halo 3 screenshots. You can submit your entry just as soon as you have it done, and for the purposes of the contest, I will only judge your first submission – so make it a good one. You’re more than welcome to submit more, though, if you’re feeling really creative and ambitious. They just won’t count toward the competition itself.
Update (18 Sept 2008 2111 EDT): Prizes added to the pool of 1600 Xbox Live points and one signed Reclaimer print.
